About Us

The Genealogy Association of Colleyville (GAC) is a group of genealogy enthusiasts that reside in and around Colleyville, TX. GAC holds monthly meetings, historically on the first Wednesday of the month at 10am at the Colleyville Senior Center.

Meetings are generally focused on a presentation by a member or guest, with announcements, advise, chit-chat, and camaraderie all in good measure. GAC also holds ad-hoc workshops where members help other members to learn and practice new techniques. The group goes on occasional field trips of genealogical interest, such as libraries, LDS History Centers, museums, genealogy conferences, and the National Archives. What makes GAC different from most other genealogical societies is its informality. GAC does not charge a membership fee, and members join simply by letting the group leader know of their interest in participating in GAC events on a regular basis. All meetings, functions and events are provided by the volunteer efforts of fellow members and the occasional guest presenter.

Genealogy Association of Colleyville members celebrate on February 7 2024 the return to the Colleyville Senior Center as the venue for Group meetings.

Researching the Past

Genealogy is the study of one's family history. It can be a fascinating and rewarding hobby, but it can also be challenging. One of the most important things to remember when researching your family history is to be patient and persistent. It may take time and effort to find the information you are looking for, but it is worth it in the end.

Building your Tree

A family tree is a diagram that shows the relationships between your ancestors and descendants. It can be a helpful tool for tracking your research and keeping track of the information you have found. There are many different ways to build a family tree. Some people prefer to use a paper-based system, while others prefer to use an online or computer-based genealogy software program.

Applying New Technologies

New technologies, such as DNA analysis, are revolutionizing the field of genealogy. These technologies can be used to identify long-lost relatives, solve genealogical mysteries, and learn more about our ancestors. DNA analysis is a process that can be used to compare the DNA of two or more individuals. This can be used to determine if two individuals are related, and to identify the specific relationships between them.
