Trips to Westland are often blighted by rain, but the bad weather can lead to some stunning rainbows and cloud effects, and the tiny town of Haast provides some greating setting. Photos here were taken around the Gates of Haast, the name for the valley and waterfalls that end the journey over the hills from Wanaka.
Once at Haast there’s nothing but a petrol station and a few huts… and a gorgeous sunset beach, and some very friendly ponies.
