Larnoch Castle is the story of a wealthy New Zealand banker's dream of creating a 'castle' out in the country for his family to live in: sadly by the time it was completed the money had run out, the family found it too remote, and they were never really happy there. The Castle fell into disrepair but is now being rescued by an enthusiastic local family. Built from local materials, it has some lovely touches including the gorgeous verandah, the 'arbor' in the garden, the lions gurding the door, and the tower - from which to admire the multi-million dollar view. This is 'Dunedin money' at its best.
