A few images of these little South Canterbury Towns, particularly for my friend who is moving there.
Having Highway 1 going through the middle wasn't a lot of fun but at least it brought passing trade ... now the town is by-passed and the town centre looks a bit sad. But it's got charm, history, and <lots> of second-hand shops - and the 'suburbs' such as they are, are pleasant. Let's hope when the current re-modelling of the main street is done it can come back to life.
There's not a lot at Pleasant Point, though as the town's sign says, 'The clue is in the name'. And there are some very pleasant houses climbing up the hills.
First, the Anglican Church (St Alban's).
Civic Amenities include an Old Town Hall with a Library, of sorts. (It looked a bit like a second-hand book and CD store - but at least they're trying.)
'Culture' seems to centre round history, the railway, eating and drinking - as well as various golf courses and local societies.
Finally here is the (rather enviable) new Catholic Church, including a painting which shows us what the old one looked like.
