'Heritage' in New Zealand means any house older than 1950, and inevitably a toolshed rusting away in the garden. The Robert Orr Homestead in Lower Hutt is a rather grand affair and is genuinely impressive, though since it's also occupied as a current home you do well to ignore things like the electric fires, modern cooker and record player. And sadly you can't go upstairs. But what's on show is well worth seeing, and outside there's not only a nice garden but also a real rusty old toolshed.
