Calley was convicted and sentenced. The public in general was outraged. President Nixon used executive privilege to order that Calley serve his three year sentence at home.
As a result of this event, protestors in the U.S. came to refer to American soldiers in Vietnam as "baby killers."
Calley lived for the next forty years in Columbus, Georgia, where his children attended Brookstone.
