MacArthur Fired

• Truman fired General MacArthur. This resulted in the end of Truman's popularity in the United States and a guarantee that Truman would not be re-elected. However, the principle that no military officer in the U.S. is above the civilian Commander in Chief is a sacred idea that was preserved. Americans do not want a Napoleon, a Julius Caesar, or a William the Conquerer as their executive.
