“I am the Sustainer of Heavenly Principles. The arrogation of mankind ends now!”
Five-hundred years ago, a great calamity befell the land. The kingdom of Khaenri’ah, a nation without gods, was destroyed by the heavens. When your player character, the “Traveler”, awakens, they gaze upon a world engulfed by flames. The Traveler and their twin attempt to leave this world but are stopped by a deity known as “The Sustainer of Heavenly Principles''.
The twins unsheath their golden blades and don their angelic wings in retaliation. A short-lived battle soon commences, ending with a devastating defeat for the Traveler and resulting in the loss of their sibling (the twin you did not select), as well as the sealing of their original powers. Five-hundred years later, that calamity and its flames are no longer present. In its place is a new Teyvat, but the ravages of war are ever present…
Two months before the start of the game’s events, the Traveler, now trapped in Teyvat, with no idea on how much time has passed since their defeat, encounters a mysterious floating pixie named Paimon… while fishing. Rather anticlimactic, but this is just the start of a great friendship between the Traveler and Paimon. After explaining their desolate situation, Paimon agrees to help guide the Traveler through the land of Teyvat in order to find the legendary “Seven Archons”, the ruling gods of each region.
This long odyssey will span seven nations, filled with many wonders. But be forewarned, with your awakening, the rumbling of ancient powers yearning to bring great change to the world are rising. The flow of time may not be so kind to you on your journey, but you must persevere in defiance of this fact.
Take heed Traveler, for the seeds of this story have already been planted, the seeds of your tale to be told.
Welcome to this world.
Important Note: There is no canon character in Genshin Impact.
Both twins are designed to fit the events of the story, the story will not change based on which twin you decide to play as. Aether, the male twin, is constantly featured in promotional material for the game, but this does not make him any more canon than Lumine, the female twin.
