The 2022 Energy Code has introduced significant changes for multifamily occupancies, from how these occupancies are to be classified and organized within the code to the introduction of new Mandatory and Prescriptive measures facilitating preparation for future multifamily all-electric buildings. Join us for this presentation where we review not only the all-electric preparation requirements of the Energy Code, but also PV exemptions. We will also explore preparation for future all-electric buildings in the Energy Code requirements for HVAC systems, domestic hot water and battery storage.

Narration: In WWI Friedman had trained the first team of codebreakers for the US military. During Prohibition she had taken on the most powerful gangsters in the country and brought down an international rum-running operation.

Jason Fagone, Author, The Woman Who Smashed Codes: The invention of radio completely transformed the value of code breaking. So it put an incredible premium on cryptography, on strong codes and ciphers because now that those messages were flying through the air they had to be protected. The problem for America is that on the eve of World War I the United States was completely unprepared to break codes in the war.

Technological innovations were fueling a global race to create evermore advanced devices for making and breaking codes. The post-war world was still a dangerous place. In 1921, William went to work for the Army Signal Corps developing new cipher machines.

Jason Fagone, Author, The Woman Who Smashed Codes: And whenever Elizebeth tried to explain how she solved the messages these six lawyers, men, would often stand up and object and say that it was some kind of witchcraft, that code breaking was not science, that Elizebeth was just making a guess.

Jason Fagone, Author, The Woman Who Smashed Codes: She got so fed up with the repeated objections of the defense attorneys that she asked a judge if she could have access to a blackboard. And Elizebeth proceeded to give a class in code breaking. And by the time she was finished the defense attorneys had nothing else to say.

As the other posters have mentioned, the personnel records of both military and civilian federal service are at the National Archives at St. Louis. We do have military records of women, as well as men. And while the US Army records were the ones most affected by the 1973 fire, we do have military records for all of the military branches and code girls could have been part of the US Army and the other military branches.

Code Breaker has been designed to be easy to play on any browser as well as touch sensitive devices such as tablets and smartboards. Similar to the board game Mastermind, you can play against an opponent, or you can crack a computer generated code.

To play a new game simply click New Game on the right of the board game. To play with a time limit. Set the time limit then click New Game. To retrieve and play a multiplayer game, enter the code in the field where it says Code then press New Game.ScoringSimilar games (such as Mastermind) don't have scoring but some of our visitors are competitive so we thought we'd add a bit of fun. You'll notice our Master Code Breakers list to your right.

The development of CRISPR and the race to create vaccines for coronavirus will hasten our transition to the next great innovation revolution. The past half-century has been a digital age, based on the microchip, computer, and internet. Now we are entering a life-science revolution. Children who study digital coding will be joined by those who study genetic code.

Kevin Feenstra's Code Breaker swing fly. This fly is tied true to Kevin Feenstra's Codebreaker shiner recipe, except we subbed light yellow instead of fluorescent yellow for the body. Just for the sake of dealing with our low, clear water conditions this season.

"When Jennifer Doudna was in sixth grade, she came home one day to find that her dad had left a paperback, titled The Double Helix, on her bed. She put it aside, thinking it was one of those detective tales she loved. When she read it on a rainy Saturday, she discovered she was right, in a way. As she sped through the pages, she became enthralled by the intense drama behind the competition to discover the building blocks of life. Even though her high school counselor told her girls didn't become scientists, she decided she would. Driven by a passion to understand how nature works and to turn discoveries into inventions, she would help to make what the book's author, James Watson, told her was the most important biological advance since his codiscovery of the structure of DNA. She and her collaborators turned their curiosity into an invention that will transform the human race: an easy-to-use tool that can edit DNA. Known as CRISPR, it opened a brave new world of medical miracles and moral questions. The development of CRISPR and the race to create vaccines for COVID-19 will hasten our transition to the next great innovation revolution. The past half-century has been a digital age, based on the microchip, computer, and internet. Now we are entering a life-science revolution: children who study digital coding will be joined by those who study the code of life. Should we use our new evolution-hacking powers to make us less susceptible to viruses? What a wonderful book that would be! And what about preventing depression? Hmm...should we allow parents, if they can afford it, to enhance the height or muscles or IQ of their kids? After helping to discover CRISPR, Doudna became a leader in wrestling with these moral issues and, with her collaborator Emmanuelle Charpentier, won the Nobel Prize in 2020. Her story is a thrilling detective tale that involves the most profound wonders of nature, from the origins of life to the future of our species"--From dust jacket.

It was at Riverbank that Elizebeth met her husband, William Frederick Friedman, whom she married in 1917. Both Elizebeth and William realized while working for Fabyan that the Baconian theory, as it is known, was simply not true (the couple later debunked the theory in their 1957 book, The Shakespearean Ciphers Examined). But soon, they got a chance to use their codebreaking skills in a different way, when the United States entered World War I and asked Riverbank Laboratories for wartime assistance.

The Friedmans directed an unofficial codebreaking team during the First World War, and in 1921, they moved to Washington, D.C. to work for the War Department. A few years later, Elizebeth began working with the Coast Guard cracking codes that helped identify and prosecute bootleggers during Prohibition. For this work, she created a codebreaking unit, becoming the first woman to run a codebreaking team in the U.S. government.

From what Greenfield can tell, Friedman felt this way because she was used to breaking extremely complex codes. Although the central Japanese and German governments used complex codes during the war, the codes Nazi spies used in Latin America were much simpler, and Friedman seemed to think she would have been more useful taking on more complex ones.

Although both Elizebeth and her husband, William, performed classified codebreaking during the war, William ended up receiving more public credit for his work, in part because he had to testify during an investigation into whether the United States had prior knowledge of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. Recent scholarship has remedied this imbalance by shedding light on Elizebeth Smith Friedman, as well as other women who received little credit for cracking codes during World War II.

Over the last 100 years, women have been involved in code-breaking work like this in far deeper ways than has ever been acknowledged before. But their contributions are now beginning to be recognised thanks to the discovery of previously forgotten papers and interviews with the few surviving members of once-secret code-breaking enclaves.

On 10 October 2017, it is Ada Lovelace Day. Lovelace was a 19th Century mathematician who wrote algorithms for early computers designed by Charles Babbage. She also realised the potential future significance of computers in a way that Babbage did not. It seems a fitting time to also remember the women who applied code-cracking techniques by hand, long before cryptography became the preserve of computer scientists.

Elizebeth was able to crack codes significantly more devilish than this. Ones in which the letters had been shifted in a variety of complex ways, sometimes defined by tables in books that the code-breakers had to reverse engineer using only the encrypted output and brainpower.

When she first entered the world of code-breaking, Elizebeth really was one of very few women in the world doing such a job. But by World War Two things had moved on. Liza Mundy, author of another new book, Code Girls: The Untold Story of the American Women Code Breakers of World War II, explains that the US Navy and Army both hired thousands of women to help in code-breaking operations.

Occasionally, when operations like this are discussed, the women are described as having been like cogs in a giant machine, simply sorting bits of paper or doing minute tasks that later resulted in the descrambling of encrypted messages. But as Mundy and Fagone have both shown, there were clearly also examples of women who had significant, high-level roles in US code-breaking. 006ab0faaa
