Message to League Bowlers for 2020/21 Season:

Cochrane Lanes is excited to start its 2020/21 Leagues and to welcome everyone back!

Returning Bowlers

Please let us know as soon as possible whether you and your team are returning to the same leagues as last year so we can prepare accordingly. Likewise, if you are not returning, we would appreciate you letting us know as soon as possible.

The leagues will start the week after Labour Day as they have in the past. Each league will determine how they will handle awards and prize money (if any) from last year. Some leagues may decide to carve out a couple weeks to complete last year’s roll offs.

We recognize that there will be a new way to operate and it is important that we implement procedures and operating guidelines so our customers and staff can enjoy our facility safely and confidently. All our staff have made themselves knowledgeable of the procedures and operating guidelines and work to ensure they, other staff members and customers are following the procedures and operating guidelines to the best of their ability. Our Relaunch plan is posted on our website and details of the plan can be made available on request.

As a league bowler, it is your responsibility to follow all policies, procedures, recommendations and protocols put in place by Alberta Health and Cochrane Lanes to make this season safe and enjoyable for you, your fellow league bowlers and the staff at Cochrane Lanes.

League Formats

Bowl Canada has provided some guidelines on how to conduct league play to start our 2020/21 season. Below are the two options that Cochrane Lanes has decided to follow to start the season. In our smaller leagues that have 24 bowlers or less, all teams can be accommodated in one session and Option 1 will be used. In larger leagues like most of the evening leagues, the sessions will need to be split so Option 2 will be used.

Option 1: One team-one lane (for leagues with 24 or less bowlers)

· All teams bowl at the same time as they usually did

· If Lanes 1-3-5-7 are used, then Lanes 2-4-6-8 to remain “dark” for this shift and vice versa

· Teams use one lane for the session (no alternating lanes)

· When not bowling, bowlers are to remain in their area and follow physical distancing protocols

Option 2: One team-alternating lanes

· Half the league (teams scheduled for lanes 1-3-5-7) bowl at 6:45pm. If the whole team chooses to arrive earlier, they can start at 6:30.

· Teams use two lanes for the session (alternating lanes)

· When not bowling, bowlers are to remain in their area and follow physical distancing protocols

· When bowling on a lane next to another team, bowler etiquette ensures physical distancing will be maintained (ie. Stay back while another bowler is bowling and do not face the other teams)

· If the teams maintain a steady pace the three games should take less time than Option 1 and we would anticipate the second group of teams could start before 8:00

· While switching out, the bowlers’ area, ball returns and concourse areas and seats will be disinfected

· Once disinfecting is done, the second group of bowlers will begin their shift.

· Consideration will be given to those teams who would prefer to always be on the early or late shift and accommodate accordingly if possible.

We are anticipating that Alberta Health and Bowl Alberta are going to come out with updated guidelines and some of the format and protocols may change at any time during the season.

Memberships and Weekly Lineage

As the leagues were unable to finish last year and Lanes had to be closed From March 17 to June 12, bowlers who had purchased membership were unable to get the value they would have normally received from their membership. As such bowlers who purchased a membership last year and are purchasing a membership again this, will receive a discount as follows:

YBC and Daytime Leagues $76 discount

Evening Leagues $86 discount

For those who purchased a membership last year and are not purchasing a membership this year, we will waive the first 4 weeks of lineage for the weeks lost league weeks from last year.

We look forward to hearing from you soon and seeing everyone back at the Lanes. If you have any further questions, please contact us at (403) 932-5280 or cochranelanes@hotmail.com.

Thank you,

Cochrane Lanes

League bowlers are also eligible for our Strike Awards during regular league play and may be eligible to enter any sanctioned Bowl Canada tournaments.
