The entered Dog/Bitch must be part of at least a three linier generation and is judged on the Breeders ability to improve the line through selective breeding. The Dog/Bitch entered can be the Grand Sir/Dam, the Sire/Dam or the youngest of the generation. Sex is not a consideration factor and my be all the same or mixed.)
All Around Sheltie (Dog or Bitch must be entered in Obedience, Rally and Conformation and have placed in all three venues. Should there be a tie of multiple entries, they will be ranked according to combined scores obtained in Rally, Obedience and from the Conformation classes which are as follows:
1 pt- 4th place in class, 2pts - 3rd place in class, 3pts - 2nd place in class, 4 pts- 1st place in class, 5 pts- Reserve to Winner's, 10 pts- Winners, 5 pts - Best of Winners, 5 pts- Best Opposite to Best In Breed, 5 pts- Select, 20 pts- Best of Breed)
So you may ask yourself... "Self? Why are they having this All Around Sheltie class this year?" We as a club have said before and still maintain that the breed of Shetland Sheepdog was created to be intelligent, agile, sturdy, solid square footing and many other attributes you can read on AKC's website.
They were also bred to be a companion dog to the farmer's wife that could work all day in the field with the farmhands. For this reason we can not say that one competition is more important than the others because it takes all of them to my our beloved Sheltie. At the American Shetland Sheepdog Club national competition they offer this award and due to the availability we have hat this show to have Conformation, Obedience and Rally we can honor our own All Rounder.
