Analysis and Computing

Simulation and computing at Los Alamos National Laboratory. Ongoing.

I am a scientist in the Advanced Simulation and Computing Production Program which supports a wide range of production activities for Los Alamos National Laboratory. We help users understand their data with visualization and data analysis on exceptionally large data. We provide software on supercomputers, support and training for that software, and produce analyses for users as well. We also identify needed analysis research and development tasks in order to facilitate the needs of end users.

Astronomy

Bayesian inference for constraining binary neutron star and black hole mergers. Ongoing.

I was one of the core authors of PyCBC Inference [21], a Bayesian inference analysis, to infer model parameters of binary neutron star and black hole mergers using gravitational-wave detector data. Collaborators and I have used this analysis for several astrophysical studies [18, 19, 20], as well as releasing samples of the posterior probability density function for signals [21].

Advanced LIGO hardware injection system.

I was one of the core authors of the Advanced LIGO hardware injection system [12] which works closely with the Advanced LIGO calibration, detector characterization, and data analysis efforts for validation and verification [6].

Gravitational-wave detection with Advanced LIGO.

I was one of the core authors of the PyCBC search [4] for binary neutron and black hole mergers which detected the first direct observations of gravitational waves in Advanced LIGO's first observation run [5, 6] as well as the first stellar-mass binary black hole mergers [5, 9, 10, 13, 14, 15] and binary neutron star merger [16]. Aside from detection, we have used the PyCBC search for measuring the coalescence rate of binary neutron star and black holes [8, 11] and detector characterization of noise transients in the data [7]. Other methodologies have been developed for targeted searches at gamma-ray bursts [3].

Pulsar detection with radio sky surveys.

I was an observer for the PALFA Survey and Green Bank North Celestial Cap Survey [1, 2] to discover pulsars for the pulsar timing array, including targeted observations to constrain the position of the millisecond pulsar J0645+51 [2].

Material Science

Optimization for materials characterization. Ongoing.

I have developed and applied automation and optimization methodologies for data processing and analysis workflows [17] for characterizing materials response to dynamic loading using velocimetry, X-ray diffraction, and neutron diffraction data. This work has been used in the characterization of several materials under dynamic loading.
