The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Association of Educators (CMAE) is committed to advancing the cause of public education.
CMAE is the county’s largest professional employee organization and our members work at every level of the education system from pre-school to university graduate programs.
Oldest, largest, best advocate for public schools & educators in Charlotte/Mecklenburg County, an affiliate of NCAE/NEA. Join us and help make a difference!

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Association of Educators believes deeply in the power of public education and the necessity of having an organized, strong, active, and effective professional association that represents the interests of students, staff, and the Community that we serve.
We believe in defending and transforming public schools! We believe in supporting our members, our students, and our Community to win the schools that our students, staff, and Community deserve! We're here because we believe in students, we believe in families, and we believe in public education!

To be the voice of educators in Mecklenburg County, NC that unites, organizes and empowers members to be advocates for education professionals, public education and children. Our vision is an equitable, quality public education for every child.

ACTION: We believe CMAE can and should take sustained, public actions to win concrete policy changes that positively impact our students’ lives.
EQUITY: We are committed to building CMAE into a powerful vehicle to push for practices that produce equitable outcomes for all of our students
Powerful, Effective Organizing Infrastructure
DISTRIBUTED LEADERSHIP: We believe deeply in a strong and growing team of leaders – a leader in every school and representation from every classification.
TRAINING: We know that to build leaders and teams, we must have a clear communication system, and an emphasis on training and leadership development programs
POWER: Mobilizing increasing numbers of educators and allies is the only way that we build power, and building power is the only way we can win the changes our students need and deserve.
Strong Connections and Relationships
WITH LOCAL LEADERS: We build strong working relationships with school board members and district administrators
WITH STATE LEADERS: We work to collaborate with and hold accountable our local and state elected officials to the will of voters
WITHIN OUR ORGANIZATION: We work closely and cooperatively with NCAE, our state’s organization and the NEA, our national organization, to access resources and maximize our impact
