For grades 1-5, the PTA partners with classroom teachers to invite a parent volunteer to read a children’s book to their class. This is a great opportunity to spend time with your child’s class and share a new or old favorite story. Below is some information about your visit. Remember, it’s a surprise for the whole class, including your child!
STEP 1: Complete the Mystery Reader Interest Form to volunteer officially. A Clow PTA member will reply to you to confirm which quarter you have been assigned.
STEP 2: Reach out to your child’s teacher to select a date/time that works for both of you. Mystery reader sessions should be limited to 15 minutes.
STEP 3: Enter your name/date/time scheduled on the following shared spreadsheet so that the main office can prepare for your visit: CLICK HERE.
STEP 4: Choose 2-3 short children’s books to read for the class. These can be your childhood favorites or your child’s favorites.
STEP 5: Email 3 clues about yourself to your child’s teacher BEFORE your visit. Throughout the day, your teacher will read each clue, and the class will guess who the mystery reader could be! The third clue should be something specific to you that will reveal you as a mystery reader to your child to build excitement!
STEP 6: All volunteers must complete the volunteer application process managed within our school district’s “Raptor” system. You can complete this process via the following link: https://apps.raptortech.com/Apply/MjQ3OTplbi1VUw==. The form that you must upload as a part of this process can be found here: https://www.ipsd.org/connect/volunteer. After your application is approved, that approval is good for one calendar year from the date of approval. **If you volunteered/submitted an application last year, you will not be able to fill out a new application until the previous year's expires. You can figure out that date for yourself by searching “Raptor” in your email, as Raptor sends out an email when applications are approved.**
STEP 7: On the day you are a Mystery Reader, please arrive and check in at our main office 5 minutes before your scheduled reading time. The office staff will direct you to your child’s classroom.
