How to Get a Great Fit

One of the most important things you can do to prevent leaks is getting a good fit with your cloth diapers. Here’s how to get the perfect fit across most brands and cloth diaper types.

Anatomy of a cloth diaper

Cloth diapers are available in Newborn, Sized (i.e., Size 1, Size 2) and One-Size (fits most). Diapers will contain rise snaps and waist snaps (or hook and loop) to offer the the perfect fit for your baby.

Placement

Unlike disposables diapers, the back of the cloth diaper should be level with your child’s belly button or hips

When pulling the diaper up over your child’s “wet zone”, pinch the diaper so that the elastics fall into the baby’s leg creases (bikini line), just like underwear

Rise snaps

Front of the diaper is pulling, the rise snaps are too tight

There is a gap between the wings and the hip crease, the rise snaps are too loose

The front wings follow the baby's natural hip crease. Perfect!

Fastening

Make sure the wings are fairly equal of both sides

Take a wing, lift it towards your baby's face

Then over towards the belly button. Repeat on the other side

Fit Check

Tuck the wings in

The front rise (snaps or hook and loop closure) forms a straight line across the belly

No muffin top

A slight gap around the waist (in front) is okay

Fabric pouch created by rise setting points up

Knees to chest: no gaps along the leg creases
