World Time Buddy (WTB) is a convenient world clock, a time zone converter, and an online meeting scheduler. It's one of the best online productivity tools for those often finding themselves traveling, in flights, in online meetings or just calling friends and family abroad.

At the dawn of agriculture, about 8000 B.C., the population of the world was approximately 5 million. Over the 8,000-year period up to 1 A.D. it grew to 200 million (some estimate 300 million or even 600, suggesting how imprecise population estimates of early historical periods can be), with a growth rate of under 0.05% per year.

A tremendous change occurred with the industrial revolution: whereas it had taken all of human history until around 1800 for world population to reach one billion, the second billion was achieved in only 130 years (1930), the third billion in 30 years (1960), the fourth billion in 15 years (1974), and the fifth billion in only 13 years (1987).

Population in the world is growing at a rate of around 0.88%  per year in 2023 (down from 0.98% in 2020, and 1.06% in 2019). The current population increase is estimated at around 70 million people per year.

The current world population is 8,081,606,427 as of Friday, December 29, 2023 according to the most recent United Nations estimates [1] elaborated by Worldometer. The term "World Population" refers to the human population (the total number of humans currently living) of the world.

Every country may have a particular standard time zone though, if it is more convenient for its world cooperation. The standard time zone is a region where the local or national authorities unify the time for a particular goal. The time zones obey specific rules referring to longitude.

The implementation of Greenwich Mean Time was the first step to determine the time zone of other countries in regard to GMT+0, while the concept of Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) was designed to provide a more accurate timekeeping system. Nevertheless, both of these time standards are widely used in the world for a similar purpose of time coordination.

The concept of Daylight Saving Time (DST) was proposed by Benjamin Franklin and refers to advancing the standard time within the region or zone by one hour to enhance the duration of daytime. Typically clocks are adjusted forward one hour in spring and backwards in autumn.

These abbreviations are used to identify the time in the 12-hour clock format instead of using 24 hours. Considering that day has two cycles, AM and PM denote whether it is before or after the middle of a day.

Our service was founded in 2005 to help people around the world save their time when planning travels, business trips, online events or conference calls. I think a GREAT feature would be to add the ability to have a location column talk to a world clock column. That way if you set the location as Los Angeles, CA, the world clock would automatically convert to PST/PDT. I think an update like this would be invaluable for all teams who use Monday to store client contacts.

I'm using Samsung's "Digital dashboard" watch face, and I changed complication 2 (the one at the top right) to a world clock. How do I change the city that's used? It's currently showing London and I can't figure out how to edit it.

The wheels were first put into motion back in 1897; then-locksmith Jens Olsen was 25 years old when he visited Strasbourg and saw the astronomical clock on display at the Notre-Dame Cathedral. The young man was fascinated by the creation and was inspired to learn the art of watchmaking, establishing himself as a master craftsman. He also began calculating and planning his magnum opus: a complete and comprehensive astronomical clock.

If a manager/admin is located in the same time zone as the location, they generally wouldn't need to make changes to the world clock setting, as shifts would appear the same way in either case.

A manager or admin located in a time zone that is different from the location may want to leave the world clock disabled so they are scheduling and seeing shifts according to the time zone of the location. However, there are multiple options they can consider:

Disable the world clock and schedule shifts according to the time zone of the location. (ex: with the world clock off a manager in LA would schedule shifts for a location in NY to start at 9 AM if the shift starts at 9 AM Eastern).

Enable the world clock and schedule shifts according to their own time zone. (ex: with the world clock on, a manager in LA would schedule a shift for a location in NY to start at 6 AM if the shift starts at 9 AM Eastern).

In either case, employees in a time zone that is different than the location's will still need to turn the world clock on in their own accounts so they can see shifts according to their local time and are not attempting to start their shift early or late.

This will allow you to understand when others are working, compared to your own shifts as well as see who else is working at the same time, no matter where they are in the world. It will also allow you to understand the timing of your shifts if you work remotely and are assigned to a location which has a different time zone than your own.

The World Clock (German: Weltzeituhr), also known as the Urania World Clock (German: Urania-Weltzeituhr), is a large turret-style world clock located in the public square of Alexanderplatz in Mitte, Berlin. By reading the markings on its metal rotunda, the current time in 148 major cities from around the world can be determined.[1] Since its erection in 1969, it has become a tourist attraction and meeting place. In July 2015, the German government declared the clock as a historically and culturally significant monument.[2]

The sixteen ton world clock was opened to the public on 30 September 1969, shortly before the twentieth anniversary of the German Democratic Republic, along with the Berlin TV Tower (Fernsehturm). The erection of the clock was part of a larger plan to expand and reorganize Alexanderplatz as a whole. At the end of the renovations, the public square was four times larger than it was at the end of the World War II.

The clock was designed by the designer Erich John, who at the time was an employee of the planning group for the transformation of Alexanderplatz under the direction of Walter Womacka. Before designing the clock and managing its construction, John was a lecturer at Kunsthochschule Berlin-Weiensee (then called the Hochschule fr bildende und angewandte Kunst, "College of Fine and Applied Arts"), where he taught product design. The idea to erect a clock in Alexanderplatz was had when the wreckage of the Uraniasule (a.k.a. Wettersule), a pre-World War II public clock, was found during the restoration of the square in 1966.[3]

The construction of the clock required more than 120 engineers and other experts, including the sculptor Hans-Joachim Kunsch; the Getriebefabrik Coswig company was also instrumental in its construction.[4] In Germany at the time, there was no widely recognized design award, so John did not receive one for his work. However, he received a design award for a different design of his in 1982.

The main feature of the World Clock is a large twenty-four sided column (the cross-section of which is a regular icositetragon). Each side of the column represents one of the twenty-four main time zones of the Earth, and has the names of major cities which use that time zone engraved into it. A windrose is painted onto the pavement below the column which holds up the clock. Four smaller analog clocks are located on the sides of the narrow column which holds up the rotunda, and the entire clock is more than large enough for people to stand under it and read the smaller clocks.

The clock is driven by an electric motor which resides in a space of 5 metres (16 ft)  5 metres (16 ft)  1.9 metres (6 ft 3 in).[3] This motor drives the gearbox, which was rebuilt from one made by Trabant.[3][7] During the 1997 renovation of the clock, Aurotec GmbH replaced parts of the original equipment which were failing.[3]

On the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the German Democratic Republic on 7 October 1989, opposition political groups formed a demonstration which began at the clock and ended at the Palace of the Republic. The state responded by arresting over 1,200 of the protesters. Thirty-three days later, the Berlin Wall fell.

GNOME Clocks should work fine if it's set up correctly. However, if you have installed the application from the (GNOME) Software application, there is a chance that you have installed the snap version of Clocks. You can verify that by running snap list and checking whether the output contains gnome-clocks.

@pomsky answer (replacing snap package with apt package) works for me as well. In addition, I also like to use gnome extension panel-world-clock-lite to make it always visible on the task bar:

Over 30,000 mechanical Geochrons have been built over the years. From our shop in Portland, Oregon, we alone continue to build and restore these mechanical masterpieces for fine homes and businesses worldwide with enhanced features that were unavailable before 2015.

Have you ever wondered how the world clock works to keep everyone in sync? We live in different time zones, but from New York to Melbourne, a second is always a second. That's because everyone sets their local clocks using an internationally agreed standard called Coordinated Universal Time, also known as UTC. ff782bc1db
