Programming languages are designed to make programming productive. Computer architectures are designed to make program execution efficient. What advice can we draw from this. Keep it simple, stupid. (The K.I.S.S. principle.) Even though it is probably outside our human capacity to make a perfect server, the more simple the server and our algorithms, the better. Document your code, make it understandable, make it simple. Every line of code has a reason. Use a simple operating system (Note: don't confuse simplicity with ease of use. Think Arch Linux, not iOS.) Keep only the bare minimum of programs. Choose a programming language with a small definition, and without weird rules and such (I'm looking at you, javascript.) Although this won't make it perfect, it will go a long ways to making you more secure.
