High-Powered Correction
The EVO Visian ICL (Implantable Collamer Lens) is an advanced vision correction treatment technology and LASIK alternative for those patients with moderate to severe nearsightedness, astigmatism, dry eyes, thin corneas or any combination of these issues. Simply put, Visian ICL can be a BETTER option than LASIK for many people and does not involve the removal of any corneal tissues. Laser vision correction is life-changing, and EVO Visian ICL has produced remarkable outcomes for our patients.
The EVO lens used in this procedure is a lot like a regular contact lens, but unlike contact lenses, EVO lenses are completely maintenance-free and UV protective. Best of all, phakic intraocular lens implantation, such as the EVO Visian ICL lens, is quick, and you can see improvements in your vision almost immediately.
EVO Visian ICL Overview
How it Works
To correct your vision, the advanced Collamer lens is inserted into your eye, in front of the natural crystalline lens but behind the iris, so it is invisible to anyone looking at you. The EVO lens corrects your prescription (refractive error) and has you seeing clearly – without glasses or contacts.
Who is a Candidate?
A good candidate for EVO Visian ICL surgery is typically someone with a higher degree of nearsightedness (myopia), with or without astigmatism, or patients with thin corneas or dry eye syndrome. The typical candidate would wear glasses or another type of corrective lenses, like contacts. Unlike some other vision correction procedures, age is less of a factor for this procedure. If you have been told you are not a candidate for LASIK, or other laser eye surgery in the past, this may be the perfect procedure for you!
Is it Safe?
Visian ICL has a great track record, with over 1 million ICL lenses implanted to date in 63 different countries. The procedure is also reversible; the lens can be removed at any time and does not permanently change the shape or structure of the eye.
Popular Benefits
With EVO Visian ICL, we are able to treat levels of nearsightedness that far exceed the limits of LASIK.
The visual outcomes have been shown in several studies to be as good as or better than LASIK for high prescriptions.
ICL surgery is quick, virtually painless, and the results are immediate.
It’s removable should your prescription CHANGE or other vision needs arise.
EVO ICL Technology
With the Implantable Collamer Lens technology, we are now able to treat levels of nearsightedness that were previously thought to be untreatable.
The EVO Visian ICL is made from Collamer, an exclusive technologically advanced lens material. Because of the collagen in Collamer, it is bio-compatible with the eye, creates clear, sharp vision, and provides built-in UV protection.
Each patient’s lenses are hand-selected and customized by the surgeon to ensure the best possible results. This procedure can also be combined with a LASIK treatment if we find that it will further improve results.
More FAQs about EVO Visian ICL
The EVO ICL is designed to be a long-term solution for vision correction. But unlike other methods, the ICL may be changed if necessary. With nearly 1 million EVO ICL lenses implanted, many people’s futures seem to be clearer, brighter, and sharper.
Once the implantable collamer artificial lens implantation is complete, the EVO Visian ICL lens does not move, and you should not be able to feel or see it.
The EVO ICL Oklahoma City is designed to not interfere with any of the eye’s structures and maintain its place on its own. It is implanted between the patient’s natural crystalline lens and the iris (colored part of the eye). The EVO is biocompatible and once it is in place it does not move.
You should inquire about the EVO Visian ICL even if your eye doctor has advised against LASIK or PRK since it is effective for individuals with a variety of lifestyles and vision goals. EVO Visian ICL has been designed to treat moderate myopia (nearsightedness) and even high myopia and is also an option if you have thin corneas. It can also treat myopic astigmatism and moderate myopic astigmatism.
The EVO ICL (implantable collamer lens) is an additive technology that corrects eyesight without removing any corneal tissue, in contrast to several other vision correction solutions. Unlike other permanent types of vision correction surgery, the EVO lenses are removable and designed to lessen or eliminate the need for glasses or contact lenses.
With and without astigmatism, the FDA has approved EVO ICL for a variety of myopic (nearsightedness) correction needs. Even though EVO ICL is less advertised than LASIK or other treatments, it has long been shown to be secure, safe, reliable, and no adverse effects. At your evaluation appointment, your ClearSight eye surgeon will go through and discuss any potential risks related to EVO ICL and make sure you feel confident about your decision to have vision correction surgery.
Before approving the EVO Visian ICL, the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) investigated it for many years in the clinical trials. Prior to FDA approval in the United States, EVO ICLs had also been used for over ten years in Europe and Asia, where a lengthy 10-year study had shown their stability and safety. In this research, there were no long-term problems and no incidence of infection or cataract development throughout the 10-year follow-up period. Worldwide, more than a million EVO operations have been performed. The Visian ICL, EVO’s predecessor, has been in use in the US since 2005 and has almost the same safety record.
The lens’ full detachability is one of EVO ICL’s many advantages. ICL lenses are worn permanently by the vast majority of patients. However, you can be reassured to know that you have the choice to remove them if your prescription (refraction) changes or if any other health issues arise. Despite the low likelihood of needing them removed, it is reassuring to have the option.
Myopia and high myopia (seeing things in a distance is difficult) are both corrected with EVO ICL procedures. Hyperopia (farsightedness, meaning reading and viewing close objects is challenging) is not corrected with EVO ICL. Presbyopia, a loss of reading vision that is a normal part of aging, is another condition that EVO Visian ICLs can not address.
The majority of patients feel little to no pain during or after surgery. Some patients report feeling pressure on their eyes, although they do not state that it is painful. Because the EVO ICL technique only requires a small, self-healing incision, it often causes less discomfort and requires less time to recuperate than some other vision correction procedures.
The majority of Implantable Collamer Lens procedures are finished in about 15 minutes. Almost immediately, patients notice a remarkable improvement in their vision. You will be amazed at how clear and improved your vision is right after surgery. The next day, you will likely be able to go back to their jobs or regular activities with your visual acuity approving each day.
In order to correct myopia and myopic astigmatism, the EVO ICL, sometimes called implantable contact lens, is implanted in a patient’s eye. Up to 20D of myopia and up to 4D of astigmatism may be treated with the EVO ICL medical procedure. The best approach to determine whether EVO ICL is appropriate for you is to arrange a consultation during which you may discuss your vision correction options with the ClearSight team.
If any of the following apply, EVO ICL may be right for you:
You’re searching for a vision correction treatment for moderate to severe nearsightedness (with or without astigmatism)
Your prescription has not changed considerably in the last 12 months.
Your eyes are in good health besides being nearsighted or astigmatic
The majority of patients return to their regular routines right away after eye surgery. However, there are a few things that should be avoided. For at least a week after surgery, you should refrain from rubbing or bumping your eyes, lifting objects weighing more than 20 pounds, going swimming, using hot tubs, engaging in water sports, or putting water or soap in their eyes directly. It’s crucial to refrain from rubbing your eyes for a week after surgery. After the initial recovery period, it will not be particularly harmful to rub your eyes. Because the ICL is located deep within the eye, far from the surface, it cannot be damaged by contact. It should be emphasized though that generally it is never a good idea to touch your eyes.
Call ClearSight today to schedule a consultation with one of our eye doctors and learn more about intraocular lens implantation and other types of vision correction refractive surgery that may be right for you.
LASIK vs ICL
January 24, 2023 | EVO ICL
When it comes to vision correction options, most people have heard of LASIK, as it is the best-known and most commonly performed refractive surgery. For patients with moderate to severe nearsightedness, astigmatism, dry eyes, thin corneas, or any combination of these conditions, the EVO VISIAN ICL (Implantable Collamer Lens) is an advanced vision correction treatment technique and a great alternative to LASIK.
By reshaping the cornea with an excimer laser, LASIK can treat myopia, hyperopia, or astigmatism. However, Visian ICL is effective only for myopia and astigmatism. With the ICL procedure, the shape of the cornea is preserved, just as if someone was wearing permanent contact lenses.
LASIK can cure a wider range of refractive errors, however, those with thin corneas or persistent dry eyes may prefer ICLs in order to prevent potential side effects. In comparison to Visian ICL, LASIK is a quicker procedure, less expensive, and has a faster recovery period. The ICL, however, may offer greater long-term correction, be less likely to cause side effects, and be removable if necessary.
Both LASIK and ICL provide amazing results and clearer vision. You and your eye doctor will ultimately decide which procedure is best for you. Your eye surgeon can help you determine which approach will be most effective for your particular circumstance.
In this article, we will discuss the similarities and differences between the two laser vision correction procedures and answer some of the questions we get asked often about ICL and LASIK.
What is LASIK?
For a long time, people with refractive errors had just two treatment options: glasses or contact lenses. Regular eye exams are necessary for these alternatives to evaluate the progression of nearsightedness, farsightedness, or astigmatism. The lens prescription must then be updated on a regular basis to keep up with changes in the cornea.
Medical researchers have developed and enhanced new technology and strategies for treating refractive errors since the 1990s, including laser surgery and implantable lenses. Eye doctors now have more alternatives than ever to offer patients thanks to these innovative treatment options, which may eventually allow them to stop using contacts or glasses every day.
One of the most popular advancements in refractive error correction since contact lenses is laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis (LASIK). A laser reshapes your cornea by removing tissue, improving how light refracts to the back of your eye. The retina picks up the light there and sends it through your optic nerve to your brain.
Millions of people all over the world are no longer required to wear glasses or contact lenses thanks to custom LASIK improving eyesight. It offers a simple, effective remedy that could genuinely transform your life.
Because some people are not ideal candidates for LASIK, researchers have looked into alternative procedures to correct vision. People with thinner corneas or other eye conditions can enjoy the benefits of implantable contact lenses for years without having laser-guided surgery.
Who is a good LASIK candidate?
At ClearSight LASIK, we usually recommend All-Laser LASIK for patients who would like to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism who are 18-42 years old or as a part of the treatment plan for those age 43 and over.
What is EVO Visian ICL?
For many patients, the Visian ICL procedure can be BETTER than LASIK because no corneal tissue is removed. EVO Visian ICL is approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in the United States and has provided our patients with extraordinary results that have literally changed their lives.
The EVO lens used in this technique is similar to a standard contact lens, except EVO lenses are UV protected and require no upkeep whatsoever. The EVO Visian ICL lens is one of the fastest and easiest phakic intraocular lenses to implant, and the results are almost immediately noticeable.
The cutting-edge implantable collamer lenses are implanted into your eye to correct your vision. The lens is hidden from view behind the iris and sits in front of the eye's natural lens. With the EVO lens, you can see clearly without glasses or contacts, and your prescription (refractive error) is corrected.
Who are good candidates for ICL?
EVO Visian ICL is often performed on patients who have dry eye syndrome, thin corneas, or a higher degree of nearsightedness (severe myopia), with or without astigmatism. The typical candidate would require corrective lenses like contacts or glasses. Unlike LASIK, age is less of a consideration for this procedure than it is for some other vision correction techniques. This procedure might be ideal for you if you have previously been told that you are not a candidate for LASIK surgery or another type of laser eye surgery.

What are the benefits of LASIK vs ICL?
LASIK Benefits
LASIK offers a fast treatment that normally takes just minutes per eye. The recovery time is also fast, and with improved visual perception, you can get back to your normal routine in a day or two. LASIK has a long history of great results, and the majority of patients achieve better than 20/20 vision. In addition, LASIK procedures often result in reduced glare and better night vision than with glasses or contact lenses.
ICL Benefits
With EVO Visian ICL, the surgeons at ClearSight are able to treat levels of nearsightedness that far exceed the limits of LASIK. The visual outcomes have been shown in several studies to be as good as or better than LASIK for high prescriptions. ICL surgery is quick, virtually painless, and the results are immediate. If your prescription should change or other vision needs arise, the artificial lens can be removed.
What are the main differences between ICLs and LASIK?
LASIK and Visian ICLs can both treat diverse populations despite having similar criteria. Here are some key distinctions between the two choices.
● LASIK can address a wider range of refractive errors, whereas Visian ICLs are only approved to treat nearsightedness.
● Visian ICLs are not a recommended treatment for patients above the age of 45. Although getting LASIK is not advised for older people either, many middle-aged people in their 40s and 50s do so without any issues, however, in some cases, reading glasses will be a requirement for LASIK in this age range.
● For those who have thin corneas, keratoconus (a bump on the cornea that resembles a cone), or persistent dry eyes, Visian ICLs are an excellent option. LASIK can exacerbate dry eye, and it is not advised for anyone with any other eye issue, including naturally thin corneas.
● LASIK removes corneal tissue, whereas Visian ICLs do not.
● If required, ICLs can be removed. LASIK is not reversible. In order to remedy overcorrections from LASIK, a different kind of laser-guided eye procedure with a lengthier recovery period would be needed.
● Visian ICLs can provide UV protection, which helps lessen damage to the eye's internal structures. This sort of UV protection is not available with LASIK.
● According to accounts from Visian ICL recipients, roughly 81 percent had vision that was at least 20/40 after the treatment, with 20/20 vision being attained by 41% of patients. 99.5 percent of LASIK patients claim 20/40 visual acuity or better, and 90.8% have 20/20 vision.
