The Things They Carried by Tim O’Brien

The Things They Carried is a novel following the life of Lieutenant Jimmy Cross, a soldier in the Vietnam War. The story tells of Cross’s infatuation with a female poet, distracting him from his role as a lieutenant. One of his soldiers is assassinated, and no one takes it seriously. Their lives go on as if nothing happens until Cross finally drops his love for the girl and starts to lead his group.
