The Last of the Mohicans by James Fenimore Cooper
The Last of the Mohicans is centered around Cooper's useful character Natty Bumpo, also known as Hawkeye, and his two Native American companions Chingachgook and Uncas. The two of them are seen as icons of early American society. The book takes place in 1757 during the war between the French and British for the rights over America and is set in the forest frontier of western New York. During this time, both sides used the help of many Native Americans in battle, mainly the French because they were lacking the troops needed to defeat the British.
