The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald
The Great Gatsby is a fictional work set in New York City on Long Island (East Egg and West Egg) in 1925, during the Roaring Twenties. It is about a man by the name of Nick Carraway who goes to New York to study the bond business. Nick's next door neighbor is a man by the name of Jay Gatsby who goes through a traumatic relationship with a married woman, Daisy Buchanan. Daisy's husband Tom was a Yale classmate of Nick's, and Daisy was an old heartthrob of Jay's. Daisy is also Nick's cousin from Louisville, Kentucky. The Buchanan's are known for their 1920s style lavish parties. This novel may seem like a romance; however, it is quite the opposite, presenting many tragedies involving the main characters and a multitude of lies. F. Scott Fitzgerald was an American author known for living, contributing to, and reflecting in his novels the flamboyance of the Jazz age. His life was tragic, so many of his novels were filled with successes and failures.
