Power by Linda Hogan

The novel Power was written in 1998, about a teenage girl named Omishto, a member of the Tiaga tribe. Omishto has a complicated relationship with her parents, and visits her friend Ama one day. A hurricane hits their town, and the two of them survive. They end up feeling compelled to follow a black panther. It doesn’t turn out well for the two of them, but Omishto learns some important lessons about herself and others towards the end and struggles with her mother's pressure to reject her tribe.
