Mountain Windsong by Robert J. Conley
Mountain Windsong is about the Cherokee people, and how they truly suffered as they were forced off their lands to move to eastern Oklahoma. The story follows the tale of two lovers, Waguli and Oconeechee. Just as they were to be married, they were forced apart due to the removal. Waguli was made to go to Oklahoma while Oconeechee was one of the few who hid in the mountains and stayed behind. Oconeechee embarks on a journey to meet with Waguli again. The story is mainly told through a modern day grandfather to a young boy, although there are many other narratives, all of which help the reader learn about the history of the Cherokee, their trail of treaties and Trail of Tears, and their relationship with government officials, including Andrew Jackson.
