A Raisin in the Sun is also a play that follows the Youngers, an African-American family living in Chicago in the 50s. When a family relative dies and leaves behind a load of money, the whole family has different ideas on how to spend it. The story follows the family as they struggle financially and deal with the racism that comes with moving into a white neighborhood. The play debuted on Broadway on October 19, 1959, and aired for the following year until June 25, 1960. The show had a total of 530 performances and was nominated for four Tony Awards.
