The North Shore Schools Mandarin Program, established in 2012, distinguishes itself as one of the most innovative and comprehensive K–12 Chinese language programs on Long Island. Our district is dedicated to cultivating students with global awareness and multilingual proficiency. The program begins in Kindergarten and extends through high school, offering IB Mandarin and dual-enrollment college credit courses that are aligned with New York State and ACTFL standards. It is taught by highly qualified, certified teachers. Our curriculum emphasizes communication skills, cultural understanding, and real-world application. Through experiential and task-based learning as well as community partnerships, students grow their listening, speaking, reading, and writing abilities while developing intercultural competence. Many students earn the New York State Seal of Biliteracy and achieve outstanding IB results. Consistently recognized by the New York State Association of Foreign Language Teachers for excellence, the North Shore Mandarin Program stands as a model of sustainable world language education, inspiring students to engage with the world with openness and understanding.
