For more information on when photos or videos are considered an "education record" please see the Department of Education's guidance here. As a teacher, school admin, or school leader, you can customize a list of feedback types that you want to encourage or recognize using Feedback Points, such as persistence, teamwork, or leadership. These Feedback Points cannot be viewed by the general public through our Service. A student's Feedback Points and any notes the teacher adds about the point, can only be viewed on ClassDojo by that student, the teacher who awarded them, that student's connected parent account(s) (if the teacher has elected to show them to the parent), and other teachers or school leaders the class is shared with. If the teacher chooses to display totals to the class, other students in the class may be able to see each other's aggregated totals (but not individual Feedback Points). We may also present aggregate summaries (e.g. of total percentage) of Feedback Points awarded by the teacher along with any photos from a Class Story or School Story to parents. As an added privacy measure to protect students, the ClassDojo platform automatically sets limits on how long Feedback Points are retained. For all students, Feedback Points older than 12 months are automatically deleted on a rolling 12-month basis. For example, if a teacher sets up a class on ClassDojo on January 1, 2023, any Classroom Feedback Points given in that class on or before January 1, 2023, would be deleted by January 1, 2024 (and no longer viewable by any ClassDojo user). This means that Feedback Points cannot exist long-term. Teachers can also delete Feedback Points at any time.

A teacher sets up a class on Class Dojo. Each student can have a cutesy monster avatar. After set up, start the class and can click any name to add a positive or negative behavior. The behaviors are tallied. If you choose to track negative behaviors, it's possible for students to have negative scores. The leader board can be private for just teacher use. However, the list of names and scores can be projected for the class to see. In fact, the leader board works well on an interactive whiteboard.

Every teacher wants the answer to classroom managmen and the answer is different for each person. I have met some teachers who use Class Dojo. Class Dojo is a real time behavior management application for classrooms. Teachers can set up their class or classes on Class Dojo with icons, or avatars, representing each student. Then the teacher can set up behavior criteria and award points to each student for showing these behaviors. For example: Team work, on task, prepared for class, persistence etc. You could have the Class Dojo screen showing on the IWB for students to see throughout the day or, as one of my colleauges does, you can have it on your Ipod strapped to your arm. Some teachers have the application on their ipad and they keep it close to them in the classroom.

Nothing is hidden from the students either. They can each create an account on the student Class Dojo site. They can see their points for each day or class and change their avatar. For the kids that like a laugh, they can surprise their classmates each day with a funny new avatar. ff782bc1db
