Clark Sayre Screenwriter

Clark Sayre creates things wherever he goes, whether it be screenplays, plays, song collections, albums, visionary programming, or, most importantly, relationships. He especially enjoys identifying a need and then doing whatever it takes to meet that need. Since Clark enjoyed Broadway musicals (he was an original cast member in Hal Prince & Stephen Sondheim's MERRILY WE ROLL ALONG,) and loved working with children as well, he compiled for Belwin Mills the first-ever collection of Musical Theater songs specifically targeted towards children entitled: BROADWAY KIDS. Since then dozens of musical theater song books have been created targeting a wide variety of niche markets. Knowing about Clark's love for kids, Stephen Sondheim and Mary Rodgers suggested that he see their pet project The New York Young Playwrights' Festival. Inspired by the terrific work he saw there, Clark brought the Young Playwrights' Festival to Santa Barbara, where it continues to thrive, now in collaboration with Ensemble Theatre. Offering young people the opportunity to work with and learn from top professionals, Clark's past mentors and workshop guests have included: Robert Zemekis, Ed Solomon, Scott Frank, Shane Black, Stephen Schwartz, Kathy Nijimy, Peter Seamen, Bill and Cheri Steinkellner, Dante DiLoreto, Eric Stoltz, Jason Alexander, Dawn Prestwich, Robert L. Freedman, Alan Zweibel and numerous others.

Clark has twenty screenplays in various developmental stages which can be found on the "Projects" page. You may visit several pages related to his latest horror/thriller LEAD* by scrolling under the LEAD tab and/or you may read a four page screenwriting sample by clicking on his short entitled: "Sandwriting."

Sensing a need for elementary and junior high plays that dealt with current youth issues, Clark has had many of his stage plays and comedies produced in educational and community theater settings. These are also listed on the "Projects" page.

Clark teaches theater at Dos Pueblos High School in Santa Barbara where he has been selected by Disney as one of five pilot high schools in the nation: http://www.dptheatrecompany.org He has produced and staged several high school premieres including Tony Winner Robert L.
