This scroll was significant to me for a number of reasons. I had taken 2 years off of scribing while in graduate school. The recipient is a member of the shire who I respect and that is why I agreed to take the assignment (which got moved 6 weeks earlier). I used a number of "new to me" techniques on this scroll. I used miniatum and gold leaf for the herald trumpet. I stepped up my illustration by using a dip pen and a "G" nib for the outlines rather than a Micron pen as in the past. I also used a dip pen (Mitchell size 5 nib) and Noodlers walnut ink for the text. I collaborated with another member of the shire, Lady Nyvein bat rav Adam, on the text which was based on a letter to a Venetian ambassador. I customized it by adding his dogs to the bottom right corner.Â
