Welcome to "Classical Japanese in 5 Minutes".

The learning of classical Japanese is a great way to find the attractiveness of Japanese, to further enhance the knowledge of Japanese language. Being able to touch classical writing from hundreds of years, to comprehend the structure of each expression in famous phrases, you become to understand the richness of Japanese in a much closer manner.

This site is designed for those who learned the essential of the language, and have the basic knowledge of reading and writing in Japanese. The Video section provides short motion pictures in 3 to 5 minutes, each explains a single grammatical issue. Further more, in the Slide section, pictures used in the video scripts are prepared in GIF format, for the use of preparation and review.

There are many textbooks and related writings to discuss on classical Japanese. Particularly those in English, each takes a quite different approach. In this site, it mainly adopts the structure developed in "Kobun Online".

The author of this site is scheduled to teach "Introduction to Classical Japanese" at University of Calgary in winter 2019. Lecture video and slides will be produced and released along the offering of this course. It will be an entirely new experience, and the plan will be continually reviewed and re-examined. 「５分で分かる！日本語古文」

日本語の魅力をいっそう感じ取り、日本語学習を一段高めるためには、古文の勉強をお勧めしたい。千年にわたって受け継がれてきた日本古典の世界に分け入り、ながらく伝誦されてきた名文の数々を表現の仕組みやセンテンスの構成まで理解できれば、日本語の豊かさをより体感できるに違いない。

このサイトは、日本語を一通り学び、読解の基本を身につけてきた大学上級生を対象に想定している。ビデオシリーズにおいて、３分から５分の短い動画を用いて古文文法の基本を説明する。あわせて動画に用いたスライドをGIFの形にまとめ、要点復習などに利用してもらいたい。

古文をテーマにする教科書や解説は数多くあり、とりわけ英語によるそれはそれぞれ異なるアプローチを取っている。ここでは、主に「古文オンライン」に従い、つぎの順番を用いる。
