Privacy Policy for Civitas

Civitas was built for students, learners, and history enthusiasts tracing the rise and fall of world civilizations, and this policy explains — plainly — what happens to your information while you do that.
1. No account, no tracking
Civitas does not ask you to register, sign in, or hand over any personal identifiers. We do not run analytics scripts, and we do not follow your activity across other apps or websites. There is nothing to opt out of because nothing is being watched.
2. What lives on your device
Every civilization you favorite, every photo you run through Scan, and every Challenge decision you make is written to a private data container inside the app, on your device only. None of it passes through our servers, because we do not operate any.
3. When Deep Dive, Scan, or Challenge calls on AI
Three features in Civitas — Deep Dive conversations, Scan photo identification, and Challenge historical evaluations — rely on an AI service (OpenAI, model gpt-4o-mini) to generate their responses. When you use one of these features, the question you asked, the photo you captured, or the decision you made is sent to OpenAI's servers for that single request. We do not attach your name, your favorites list, or any other saved content to these requests — only what you actively submit in that moment. OpenAI's own privacy practices govern that transmission; you can read them at https://openai.com/policies/privacy-policy. Every one of these features asks for your explicit go-ahead the first time you use it, and you're free to decline.
4. Asking us to delete something
Because your favorites, Scan history, and Challenge history never leave your device in the first place, there is no remote copy for us to erase. Uninstalling Civitas removes all of it permanently.
5. Younger learners
Civitas is written for students and history enthusiasts generally, but it is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly gather information from anyone in that age group.
6. If this policy changes
Should Civitas gain new features that touch your data differently, we'll revise this document and update the date at the top so you can tell at a glance whether anything changed.
