Background

Jacqueline Apple (aka Applejack) was the second foal born to Bright Macintosh and Pear Butter, being 3 years younger than her older sibling. When Applejack was a young filly, Pear Butter became deathly ill. Wanting to try and find a cure for her, Applejack ventured into Everfree Forest where she was attacked by a timberwolf. She was saved by Bright Mac, but it ultimately cost him his life giving her time to run back to the farm. Pear Butter passed away a few days afterwards, leaving Applejack and her sibling in the care of her grandmother, Granny Smith. Applejack blamed herself for her parents’ death for years.

When it came to her cutie mark, Applejack was a “late bloomer”; she was one of the last fillies in her class to get her cutie mark. One day, Applejack decided to go live with her aunt and uncle in Manehattan. However, she finds it hard to fit in and becomes terribly homesick. It’s not until Applejack sees a rainbow made in the wake of Rainbow Dash’s sonic rainboom is that she’s convinced to return back to the farm. Returning to the farm causes her cutie mark to finally appear.

During her teens, she came to befriend a farm hand who was helping on the farm one summer. It quickly became a summer romance which ended up with Applejack getting pregnant. Despite this, the farm hand was more than willing to step up as a father, even making plans to marry Applejack. One night, however, the barn caught fire. After Winona, who was a puppy at this time, ended up being trapped in the flaming barn, the farm hand went in to rescue her. While Winona got out, the farm hand didn’t. Applejack ended up giving birth to Apple Bloom without the farm hand by her side.
