Background

Sam was the third pup born to a pair of whywolves, a species similar to werewolves with an inquisitive nature. Growing up, Sam was more of the "black sheep" of their family; while their family were interested in science, Sam's was in magic. When she was old enough, Sam struck it out on her own where she pursued her passion of finding out how magic worked and what made it tick.

The way they went about it was morally questionable. After kidnapping a wizard and performing experiments on him for a week, she was arrested by Wizard City's authorities and sent to prison. It was here that that they met Marsha, who was sent to prison for practicing dark magic and was their cellmate. Sam found Marsha and her usage of dark magic to be fascinating and they ended up becoming allies. Together, they broke out of prison.
