As a Coach, you are expected to:
Cultivate positive club cultures in your sport. This includes actively participating in the College's Inclusive Sport campaign (see below)
Promote your club through face-to-face and online communications.
Support the Sports Co-ordinator in arranging for your club to participate in tournaments, including the College National Finals.
Attend monthly Coach Forum meetings.
Communicate reliably with club members over Slack (Android download here; Apple download here).
Communicate with SA staff over email, responding to all communications in a timely manner.
Plan and run sessions reliably and to time: Coaches are expected to arrive 15 minutes before the start of the session to set up equipment and welcome participants. If you are unable to run the session for any reason, please let the SA know as soon as possible using our Absence Reporting procedure.
Your Line Manager and Sports Co-ordinator Andrew Kirk will be happy to offer support with all aspects of the role. Please do not hesitate to get in touch if they can help!
The SA 's Inclusive Sport campaign reflects our commitment to ensuring that sports clubs are welcoming spaces for all students, regardless of gender identity, ethnicity, religion or disability. As Coaches you are expected to uphold these values, to plan sessions that are comfortable and accessible for all, and to cultivate an inclusive club culture.
In the academic year 2023/4 we will be introducing taster sessions for specific groups, such as LGBTQ+ students and disabled students. These will run for half an hour before the start time of the main session, offering a safe space for students to try out the sport in a small group before deciding whether to stay on for the full session.
If you feel you would benefit from further training and support in Inclusive Sport and / or facilitating taster sessions, please speak to Sports Co-ordinator Andrew Kirk or contact the SA. You can email us on citysa@cogc.ac.uk, call us on 0141 375 5322 or drop into our office on Floor 2, City Campus, anytime.
The SA is committed to providing as much training and support for our Coaches as possible. As well as our own training programme, we encourage you to speak to the Sports Co-ordinator about funding for any external courses you would like to undertake.
