• cipher Replacement Audio Cable — biggest strength: a full plug-and-play replacement cord with an in-line microphone and remote, two male plugs (one straight, one L-shaped) and a 1.4 m run, so you get audio plus call and track control back in one part.
• cipher Replacement Audio Cable — biggest trade-off: it is a cable only. If your problem is comfort, seal or noise isolation, this fixes none of that. Remote functions are also limited to Apple devices and some Android phones.
• SOULWIT Earpads — biggest strength: fresh protein-leather and high-density foam cushions that seal around your ears for better isolation and comfort, with a detailed guide included for a quick swap.
• SOULWIT Earpads — biggest trade-off: they fit Beats Solo 4 on-ear headphones only. They will not fit Studio over-ear, Solo HD, Solo2 or Solo3. Wrong model, wasted purchase.
• Who each pick is for: cable for anyone whose Beats still sound good but have a dead or damaged cord; earpads for Solo 4 owners whose cushions are worn out and uncomfortable.
The cipher cable is a repair part, and it knows it. It is designed as a direct replacement cord for a long list of Beats models — Studio, Solo, Executive, Mixr, HD and Pro, both on-ear and over-ear — plus the Pill and Pill+ speakers. It uses two male 3.5 mm plugs: one straight, one L-shaped. That angled plug is the detail I like most here, because the L end is the one that usually sits at the headphone cup and takes the abuse of being shoved into a bag.
The other half of the story is the in-line microphone and control. You get answer/hang-up on calls, volume up and down, and previous/next track selection — but only on Apple gear: iPhone 3GS through 6/6 Plus, plus iPod and iPad. On Android, the sheet is honest that remote function works on some models only. If you are on a newer phone, treat the remote as a coin flip and buy it mainly for the audio path.
Where it wins: you have a perfectly good pair of Beats sitting in a drawer because the cable frayed, the mic died, or the jack is intermittent. A 1.4 m tangle-free cord in black/red gets you back to listening and taking calls for far less than replacing the headphones. Where to skip it: if the cups are the problem. A new cable will not restore a collapsed pad, improve isolation, or make an uncomfortable headphone comfortable. Also skip if you need a long run — 1.4 m is a normal, pocket-friendly length, not a studio tether.
The SOULWIT pads attack the other failure point: the cushions. Over time, earpads flatten, the covering flakes, and the seal around your ear breaks down. Once that seal goes, bass leaks out, outside noise leaks in, and the headphone starts feeling loose and scratchy. SOULWIT's answer is high-grade protein leather over high-density foam, and the stated goal is a brilliant seal — which is exactly the mechanism that gives you noise isolation and long-session comfort. The color here is Cloud Pink, and the enclosure materials are listed as faux leather and foam.
The critical line on this product is compatibility. These are made for the Beats Solo 4 Wireless on-ear headphones (model MUW23LL/A). The brand itself flags, in capitals, that they do not fit Studio over-ear headphones, and the same goes for Solo HD, Solo2 and Solo3. So before you buy, check your model. This is not a generic pad that stretches over anything.
Installation is pitched as easy, with a detailed user guide included — which matters, because earpad swaps are fiddly on most on-ear models and a good guide is the difference between a ten-minute job and a frustrating afternoon. There is no warranty listed, so factor that in. Where these win: your Solo 4 pads are visibly worn and you want the headphone to look and feel new again. Where to skip: any Beats model that is not the Solo 4, or a pair where the actual fault is the cable or the drivers.
• Best for a dead or damaged cord → cipher Replacement Audio Cable. It is the only one of the two that addresses the signal path.
• Best for call and track control → cipher Replacement Audio Cable. In-line mic plus remote, with the caveat that remote functions are Apple-first and partial on Android.
• Best for comfort and noise isolation → SOULWIT Earpads. Protein leather and high-density foam exist to rebuild the seal around your ear.
• Best for long listening sessions → SOULWIT Earpads. Fresh foam beats a flattened pad every time.
• Best for Solo 4 owners → SOULWIT Earpads. That is the model they are built for.
• Best for Studio, Solo HD, Solo2 or Solo3 owners → cipher Replacement Audio Cable. The cable covers those models; the pads explicitly do not.
• Best for plug-and-play with no tools → cipher Replacement Audio Cable. Two plugs, straight in, done.
• Best for bringing an old headphone back to looking new → SOULWIT Earpads. Aesthetic refresh is part of the pitch.
In my opinion, these two do not really compete — they compete for your attention as the first fix. If your Beats still sound good and the problem is the wire, mic or jack, I would buy the cipher Replacement Audio Cable without hesitation; it is the cheaper-feeling, lower-effort repair and it solves the actual fault. I would only reach for the SOULWIT Earpads if you own Beats Solo 4 specifically and the cushions are the thing that has gone bad. Buy the part that matches your symptom, not the part that sounds more exciting. And check the current price on Amazon before you commit, since that is the one number that changes.
Not generally. The cable covers a wide spread of Beats models including Studio, Solo, Executive, Mixr, HD and Pro. The earpads fit Beats Solo 4 only, and explicitly do not fit Studio, Solo HD, Solo2 or Solo3.
No. The product listing says they are for Solo 4 Wireless (MUW23LL/A) and that they do not fit Solo HD, Solo2 or Solo3. Check your model number before ordering.
Partly. The listing states remote functions work on Apple iPod, iPad and iPhone, and only on some Android smartphones. Assume the audio will work everywhere and the buttons may not.
The SOULWIT Earpads. Isolation comes from the seal around your ear, and that is exactly what new protein-leather pads over high-density foam are designed to restore. A cable cannot change how much outside noise you hear.
