The VI National Colloquium and V International Philosophy Research Colloquium at the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC) is an annual scientific event whose objective is to promote interaction between researchers in Philosophy from all regions of Brazil and other countries. This event is organized by students from PPGFil-UFSC, with the support of the Postgraduate Program Coordination and teachers from the Philosophy Department of this University.
With the theme “Philosophies Out of the Borders: Making Alliances from the Margins”, the VI National Colloquium and V International Philosophy Research Colloquium at UFSC invites us to reflect on the philosophical contributions that emerge and exceed the well-arranged plots of traditional centers of knowledge and its canons, valuing perspectives that, by challenging the predominant philosophical narrative, enrich the field, bringing new light to our practices and knowledge.
The challenge facing us is to go beyond binary and dichotomous thinking, emphasizing the importance of building alliances between different traditions and contexts, so that we can collectively reposition the harsh borders that have allowed us to separate center and periphery; nature and culture; reason and emotion; universal and particular; neutrality and partiality. Of the multiple meanings that we can give to the idea of “Philosophies Out of the Axis”, we seek to highlight a possibility or an invitation-assumption: every place is a fruitful center of philosophically relevant perspectives, including non-hegemonic voices and spaces, often categorized as “margin”.
Given this, we ask: how can philosophy be practiced going beyond the traditional binaries that seem to make up part of its imagination? What alliances can be woven to build a philosophical field attentive to the multiple voices, traditions and space-temporally situated problems that constitute it? How can the displacement of the traditional field and transform our conceptions of the world, our production of epistemologies, our philosophical concerns?
In line with the thematic scope of the Colloquium, we invited researchers in Philosophy, at postgraduate level (postgraduate students; postdocs; professors), to submit and present works that address the challenges and opportunities raised by this topic. We remind you that the Colloquium is intended as a space for presenting research and investigations within the suggested theme, but will also be open for work on free topics.
Finally, we invite the entire academic community and interested people to think with us about an out of axis Philosophies in all areas of Philosophy, its conceptual and practical relevance, the possibilities and actualities of a philosophical practice that is oriented in terms different from those placed by the dominant versions from philosophical field. Our event will take place, in person at UFSC (Campus Trindade), in Florianópolis, between November 11th and 14th, 2024.
