Bluebird

At 23 years old, hailing from Wishaw, Ryan Pollock is both a writer and filmmaker. "Bluebird," his creation, is a gritty, engaging film with beautiful cinematography. It narrates the story of an unfulfilled litter picker, in search of meaning in a life that seems perpetually lacking, while also expressing concern about a volatile domestic situation in the neighboring flat.

 Derived from the struggles of local characters and wanderers in such environments, "Bluebird" portrays the quiet battles of lonely, trapped individuals, often forgotten amid the backdrop of violence. The film is shot almost entirely in the soon-to-be-demolished Gowkthrapple neighbourhood in Wishaw and serves as a homage to the area. Through "Bluebird," Ryan Pollock aspires to immortalize the unique essence of Gowkthrapple, capturing the stories of the disillusioned, lost, and angry who inhabit it.
