Engineering precision in home theater sound
What if your home theater operated like a professional Front-of-House (FOH) audio system? This question has been addressed, and my home theater is now more enjoyable and better sounding than ever.
I’ve written a paper, The Front-of-House Cinema, describing a real-time DSP approach to home theater audio. A VST plugin processing chain provides the solution in one workflow.
The paper covers the reasoning behind each processing stage, the signal routing, and the settings used. It also includes REW measured results of an example 7.4.0 system.
All the software has trial versions, so you can try the approach with your own system.
I’d welcome critique, questions, and discussion from anyone who reads the paper and is interested in giving FOH Cinema a try. I’m also interested in alternatives: other plugins, calibration tools, or other methods of implementation.
I have no affiliation with the suppliers of any hardware or software named in this paper.
