Abstract:

The Hilbert scheme of points in the affine plane is a very well-known parameter space that arises naturally in several areas of algebraic geometry and geometric representation theory. After discussing what we mean by a "point", I'll review the construction of the Hilbert scheme from several points-of-view and I'll say what's known if we replace the affine plane by any ADE singularity.
