CIETAL 2025

The topic of the "International Congress on Theoretical and Applied Lexical Studies (CIETAL 2025)” is Lexicology from different approaches, both theoretical and applied. Some of the models focused on Lexicology or Lexical Semantics were born during the last century. This led to a proliferation over the last fifty years of high quality academic work focused on the lexicon.

Among others models, we can mention the Meaning Text-Theory (MTT) (Mel’čuk 1984, 1996, 2014, 2023; Mel’čuk et al 1995; Polguère 2014); the Natural Semantic Metalanguage (NSM) (Wierzbicka 1985, 1996; Goddard 2012, 2017; Goddard and Peeters 2006; Goddard and Wierzbicka 2004, 2014); the Frame Semantics (FS) (Fillmore 1968, 1982, 1985; Baker 2008; Baker et al 2003; Subirats 2004; Lönneker-rodman and Collin 2009); the Generative Lexicon (GL) (Pustejovsky 1991; de Miguel 2009, 2016; de Miguel and Batiukova 2017; Pustejovsky and Batiukova, 2019); the Theory of Norms and Exploitations (TNE) (Hanks 2013); and the Frame-Based Terminology (FT) (Faber 2012). Several authors also call for the need to implement cognitive semantics in the fields of lexicology and lexicography (Geeraert 2003, 2009, 2020; Ibarretxe-Antuñano 2010).

Most of these models have enabled the development of applied works, such as: a) the Réseau Lexical du Français (Polguère 2014, https://spiderlex.atilf.fr/fr), the Spanish dictionary DICE (Alonso Ramos 2004, http://www.dicesp.com/paginas), and the Russian-English and English- Russian translator ETAP-3 (http://cl.iitp.ru/etap3), all three developed within the MTT framework; b) the primes, molecules, templates and cultural scripts from the NSM approach,  https://nsm-approach.net/archives/category/nsm-toolkit; c) the web of frame semantics and maps attached to the project FrameNet (https://framenet.icsi.berkeley.edu/) and the Spanish version of this project (http://spanishfn.org/), both of them created within the FS framework; and d) the Ecolexicon, developed within the FT model (https://ecolexicon.ugr.es/en/index.htm).

CIETAL 2025 is an International Congress that will be held at Universidad Complutense de Madrid (Spain) from 12th to 14th May 2025. The conference aims at bringing together different researchers who work on lexicology from different theoretical points of view. In addition to the series of communications, there will be plenary speakers, such as Alain Polguère (from Sense-Text Theory) Université de Nancy) and Cliff Goddard (MSN, Griffith University), as well as round tables. We also have confirmation from other researchers, including Ricardo Mairal (UNED), Pamela Faber (Universidad de Granada), Carlos Subirats (Universidad de Barcelona), Leo Wanner (Universidad Pompeu Fabra), François Lareau (Université de Montréal), Ulla Vanhatalo (Universidad de Helsinki), Zuzanna Bulat (Uniwersytet Wroclawski) e Igor Boguslavskij (Universidad Politécnica de Madrid).

The congress is organised by the research group Lex2Co2 (Cognitive and Computational Lexicology and Lexicography) and the Spanish Language and Theory of Literature department of the Universidad Complutense de Madrid.

Deadline: The deadline for the submission of abstracts is November 15 2024. Abstracts should be anonymous and contain a minimum of 800 and a maximum of 1200 words, excluding references, tables, and figures. Abstracts should be sent to the following e-mail address:  cietal2025@gmail.com.

Languages: The language of the plenary sessions and round tables at the conference is English, and no interpreting services will be provided. However, proposals, oral presentations, and papers for publication can be submitted in Spanish, French, or English.

Contributions: Paper proposals (for 20-minute presentations + 10-minute discussion) will undergo an anonymous review by at least two members of the Scientific Committee. All communications will be face-to-face, there is no possibility of online presentation.

Publication: Two Spanish journals indexed in the first quartile of the database FCYT labeled journals have expressed interest in publishing the articles selected for publication.
