about

Ciella Sfirri is an aspiring documentary filmmaker and editor based in San Francisco. She currently attends the UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism where she is studying short form video. Ciella is most inspired by character driven stories that highlight how the past and present intersect.

Her most recently published film, “Earth’s Perfume,” centers on a traditional perfumery in Kannauj, the perfume capitol of India. The film focuses on one family owned perfumery that is suffering as a result of modern day synthetic perfumes and the rise of consumer culture that devalues traditional artisanal crafts. The film went on to be featured in Vogue India.

She is currently in post-production on a character-driven short about an eccentric hippy and Vietnam veteran trapped in a retirement home, and his unlikely friendship with a 20 year old girl.

Ciella is passionate about creating stories that shed light on the universality of the human experience, and creating videos that promote connection across political, economic and cultural lines. While she has enjoyed learning about all aspects of production, Ciella is eager to gain experience in the world of editing as this is the part of the filmmaking process that excites her most.
