A paid service that evaluates news content and helps you sort through bias, accuracy, and credibility.
Not to be underestimated, Google News uses mostly decent news sources and actually demonstrates good news judgment, but be sure to make active use of its feature that lets you ignore unwanted news sources. Beware that until you get a handle on the sources it shows you, you will get at least some garbage along with the good.
Snopes debunks fake news. Its enlightenment helps to out disinformation, but in the long run has the effect of helping readers recognize patterns to watch for that can act as red flags in news coverage.
The very best tool you can use to filter out the nonsense is your own judgment. Is the source unfamiliar? Is there a strong commercial motivation behind the content? Is there a strong political motivation? Keep sceptical, with or without these tools. And, remember, the big publications and broadcasters sometimes get things wrong, too.
Tools pop in and out of existence on the Internet regularly; I will try to add resources to this page as I encounter them.
