I was assigned to create the event logo/wordmark, auction materials, and digital marketing assets for PPNorCal's major annual fundraising gala for Humboldt County supporters and donors. This year, PPNorCal underwent a significant change in tone and language, particularly moving away from the word "choice," which had previously been central to the event's known title, "Choice Affair."
The challenge was to design an elegant, stacked font logo/wordmark that incorporated the event's full slogan while shifting the focus from "choice" to "gala" and other impactful taglines. Additionally, I was responsible for designing captivating and informative auction lot posters and presentation slides to ensure attendees were well-informed and encouraged to bid on auction items.
I chose a blue color palette with bokeh accents, inspired by my previous event design for "Acts of Courage." This design aligned with the new branding direction while maintaining a sophisticated and cohesive look.
The designs were well-received, and the auction items were successfully bid on and sold, contributing to the overall success of the gala.
For PPNorCal's 2023 gala, I was directed to streamline the design process and simplify all templates and color schemes.
The goal was to maintain the festive pink theme across all event materials, using a simple watercolor gradient background. I also had to create a large number of auction posters and flyers, ensuring they had slight design variations to avoid a repetitive, monotonous appearance. Additionally, I focused on using vibrant, accurate images for special guest headshots and auction items, avoiding stock photos wherever possible. I also designed a simple, on-theme bid sheet with prefilled bid amounts to ensure adherence to strict bid increments and to prevent bidders from accidentally overbidding or underbidding.
I applied the watercolor gradient across all assets and introduced subtle variations in the design to keep the materials engaging. I carefully selected or curated images to ensure they were authentic representations of each auction item or experience. The prefilled bid amounts on the bid sheets helped maintain consistency and fairness in the bidding process.
The gala was another successful event, with auction items selling well, bidders following the correct increments, and guests having a great time.
