For the past few months we’ve been hearing about rising tensions between Taiwan and China. Although this issue has been going on since the ending months of the Trump administration, it seems that the situation has metastasized into a full-on military flex operation. China has been sending military jets, planes, and other aircraft over Taiwan’s defense zone. This is an incursion into the nation’s airspace. The reason why this is a situation is because China has openly, and actively threatened Taiwan by saying it will “reunify” the nation to the “mother country.” Reunification is Chinese slang for taking over a nation that they believe they own, yet, according to sovereignty they have no right to claim it. However, China knows that Taiwan is an independent nation, but because they have great power and the world fears them, they get away with it.
In recent months, China has been playing wargames in the ocean surrounding Taiwan. Although no military procedure has brought any casualties or damage to Taiwan, these operations are placing fear in the emotions of the Taiwanese people and its leaders. The Chinese are conducting operations along the waters of Taiwan in plain view. The world can easily see the People’s Liberation Army of China conducting weaponry tests and tactical maneuvers along the waters of Taiwan.
On October 2nd, 2021, China sent 77 military aircraft into Taiwan’s defense zone. 2 days later, they sent 56 aircraft. The number of aircraft being flown into Taiwan has changed from sets of ones, to sets of tens. This is a clear indication that China is testing the waters on what they can get away with. So far the United States has done nothing since China began passing into Taiwan’s defense zone. Ned Price, the spokesman for the State Department sent out a “serious” statement to Beijing urging them not to escalate the situation any further. Of course, Beijing doesn’t give a paper sheet about what Ned or anyone else in the State Department has to say, especially after the embarrassing Afghanistan exit carried out by President Biden and Secretary of State Antony Blinken.
In reality, there would be no real clear reason why China is conducting military operations. Taiwan has never been an enemy of China. So why is China doing this? Furthermore, China has a large boundary of water to do military tests; there should be no reason why they need to do their tests in the waters of Taiwan. The answer is this: China is planning to invade Taiwan; they are just testing the waters to check and see if the world will do anything about it.
China is a nation with 100’s of nuclear bombs, one of the most powerful military forces, and an extensive aircraft detail. Taiwan does have a military and is an ally of the United States and Japan, but without help, they would easily fall in the event of a Chinese invasion.
So then, this raises the question: will the United States defend Taiwan? The clear answer is: just wait and see. Of course, I have no information on when China will invade Taiwan. Some people say soon, while others say as late as 2025. But I at least agree with the “soon” time slot. And if “soon” really is the final answer to this question of when, the only thing left to figure out is will the United States actually defend Taiwan. If Trump was still President, I’d bet the answer would be yes, we would defend Taiwan. But under President Biden, I can’t give that answer definitively. I mean, just look at how he handled Afghanistan! He completely disregarded the sound advice from Generals Milley and McKenzie on keeping Bagram and 2,500 troops in Afghanistan. And after the chaos of the evacuations, a terrorist attack at the airport that left over 100 civilians and 13 U.S service members dead. We got the final goof when the “over the horizon capability” drone strike on a van suspected of housing terrorists ended up killing 10 civilians, including 7 children. None of them being so called “ISIS-K” terrorists. All innocent lives, lost because of a botched exit-plan. So do we really think that our President is capable of handling the Armed Forces of the United States at this point? He singlehandedly caused the worst military defeat in modern U.S history over trying to make the exit strategy his way, and to try to play the whole operation as safe as possible. With this, I don’t think Biden will even defend Taiwan. I think that if China invades, Biden would just pull all our troops out, evacuate diplomats and American civilians, and then just leave Taiwan into the hands of an aristocratic, atheist, and communist government. The last thing we need right now is the fall of another democracy. We already lost Afghanistan, let’s not lose Taiwan. I think the writing’s on the wall though. Biden doesn’t want to be remembered as a war-time President, let alone one that loses. So, the likeliest situation is a swift exit and a letter of condemnation of China’s takeover of Taiwan. Ned Price is going to literally save the world with a statement written on a website (sarcasm) and we’ll be back to cheap products with a golden label saying “Made in China.”
Furthermore, does anyone really think China is scared of Joe Biden? As it is, it’s possible that Biden is compromised with foreign financial dealings in China so if he tried to do something it could backfire quickly. However, the most realistic circumstance is that China is just not scared at all. At best, China probably thinks of the President as being incompetent. But the President is more than that.
If China’s talk of reunification, the military operations, and the increase of military flex in Taiwan waters isn’t sus enough for you, here is what is: China has threatened a full-scale nuclear war with Japan if it decides it wants to defend its ally Taiwan. This should immediately have received a direct statement by the President telling China to back off. But what have we heard? Nothing...
As much as I love my country, I can’t bear to see another failure like Afghanistan. If Taiwan falls into Chinese hands it would make the United States look clueless and weak on the world stage. We must prevent the Chinese from taking another democracy away from the world. If Taiwan falls into the hands of the Chinese, they will destroy the beautiful lands of Taiwan, destroy the people’s voice, and end freedom of religion in Taiwan. America must stand up against communism, not give them another chance to get the upper hand. President Biden must act immediately to stop the Chinese. He must send out warships to Taiwan, and increase military presence on the island country. The message must be sent, the United States will not let the Taiwanese people fall into the hands of the Communist Chinese.
