And Peter

Mark 16:1-7

[1] When the Sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices, so that they might go and anoint him. [2] And very early on the first day of the week, when the sun had risen, they went to the tomb. [3] And they were saying to one another, “Who will roll away the stone for us from the entrance of the tomb?” [4] And looking up, they saw that the stone had been rolled back—it was very large. [5] And entering the tomb, they saw a young man sitting on the right side, dressed in a white robe, and they were alarmed. [6] And he said to them, “Do not be alarmed. You seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He has risen; he is not here. See the place where they laid him. [7] But go, tell his disciples and Peter that he is going before you to Galilee. There you will see him, just as he told you.”

Matthew 28:1-7

[1] Now after the Sabbath, toward the dawn of the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to see the tomb. [2] And behold, there was a great earthquake, for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled back the stone and sat on it. [3] His appearance was like lightning, and his clothing white as snow. [4] And for fear of him the guards trembled and became like dead men. [5] But the angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. [6] He is not here, for he has risen, as he said. Come, see the place where he lay. [7] Then go quickly and tell his disciples that he has risen from the dead, and behold, he is going before you to Galilee; there you will see him. See, I have told you.”

PETER, THE ONE WHO FALLS

Can you find the difference between these two passages after reading them? Matthew’s gospel says that after the Lord’s resurrection, an angel told the women to tell His disciples of His resurrection. Mark’s gospel records that the angel asked the women to tell the Lord’s disciples and Peter. Oh, the words “and Peter” cause tears to fall. Each of the four Gospels records the story of the Lord’s resurrection, but only Mark’s gospel has the words “and Peter.” Since John was the one whom the Lord loved, why doesn’t the Bible say “and John”? Since Thomas doubted the Lord’s resurrection, why doesn’t it say “and Thomas”? The angel did not mention the best disciples or the neediest disciples. He specifically mentioned Peter. Why? What made Peter different from the others?

What kind of person was Peter? Three days before the resurrection, Peter committed a great sin, a sin that would cause the Lord not to confess him before the Father (Matt. 10:33). Peter denied the Lord not only before men, but even before a maid who was despised by others at that time. But the Lord wanted the women to tell the disciples and Peter about His resurrection. The words “and Peter” have a very deep meaning! If any brother or sister had Peter’s experience, they might think:

“Oh! I have fallen. The sin which I have committed is not a common sin. I am afraid that I cannot draw close to the Lord anymore. He might have already forsaken me. I am afraid that from now on, whenever the Lord has any important thing to do, He will not take me along. I will not be able to have special experiences like I had when I was with Him on the mount of transfiguration. I will not be able to accompany Him like I did in the garden of Gethsemane. I told the Lord that I would die for Him, and the Lord said that before the cock crowed twice, I would deny Him three times. I thought that He misunderstood me. When He was taken, I even cut off a man’s ear with a sword, thinking that I loved Him courageously. Yet I fell. It was not before the high priest or the powerful Pilate that I fell, but before the questioning of a maid. I denied the Lord once, twice, and finally I even swore in my denial of the Lord.

“At one time I confessed that He was the Christ, the Son of the living God. At another time I said to Him, ‘Lord, to whom shall we go? You have words of eternal life.’ But eventually, I fell just as the Lord was about to be crucified. I committed the great sin of denying Him. Although I cried with regret, I do not know how the Lord is going to treat me. It would have been better if He had not known that I denied Him, but when I denied Him, He turned and looked at me. He knew what I had done.

“What should I do? I dare not come close to Him anymore. Although He loves me, I dare not approach Him because there is a sin which separates me from Him. Perhaps from now on, I cannot be close to Him. Yet, after the Lord resurrected, several women brought back word that they were to specifically tell me about it. Oh, the Lord has not forsaken me, even though I denied Him three times. He does not hate me, nor is He angry with me. His heart was thinking of me. He did not mention anyone but me specifically. It is as though He was only thinking about me. ‘And Peter!’ ‘And Peter!’ These words are truly the most beautiful music in the world, the most wonderful tidings!

“If the Lord had only told the women to tell the disciples, I would have thought that I was no longer worthy of being His disciple and that I was no longer one of His disciples. I would not dare to go see Him. But since the Lord said, ‘and Peter,’ I know that He still wants me. Although I do not have the strength to go see Him, ‘and Peter’ encourages me to go. The message brought back by the women is true. The Lord told the angel to mention my name specifically. The Lord did not forsake me. I can still draw near to Him. Let me rise up and go see Him!”

TURNING TO HIM

Here was a fallen, sinful Peter, a Peter who had denied the Lord. Yet the Lord specifically mentioned him. This is the gospel! Brothers and sisters, do you know that once the Lord saves you, He saves you eternally? Although you may be discouraged, the Lord will never be discouraged. A sinful person like you may feel shame in turning back to Him, but the One you have sinned against considers that there is nothing wrong in returning to Him. Why should you keep thinking of your failure when He is not concerned with it? If the Lord can remove the veil from your face today, you will not fear Him or be afraid to come near to Him.

Peter might have remembered that he said to the Lord, “If all will be stumbled because of You, I will never be stumbled” (Matt. 26:33). He might have also remembered what he said at the lake of Gennesaret, when he saw the glory of the Lord: “Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, Lord” (Luke 5:8). After Peter realized his true condition, how could he dare see the Lord again? He might have remembered the Lord’s pleading: “So were you not able to watch with Me for one hour?” He might have heard the Lord’s command in his ear: “Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation” (Matt. 26:40–41). His condition was far below the Lord’s requirements. How could he dare to go see Him? But he went to meet the Lord anyway. He dared to go because of the words “and Peter.” Brothers and sisters, if you know the Lord’s intention behind the words “and Peter,” will you still turn away from Him instead of turning toward Him? If you realize the profound significance of the words “and Peter,” you have to come near to the Lord.

“AND PETER” — A WORD OF GRACE

Among the four Gospels, only Mark’s gospel records these words. Mark was a young man who followed and learned from Peter. The Gospel according to Mark was dictated by Peter and written down by Mark. The words “tell His disciples and Peter” were specifically dictated by Peter. These words might not have been important to other people, but they were very important in Peter’s heart. When the Holy Spirit was writing the Bible, He specifically wanted to show us that, even though these few words were considered unimportant by Matthew, Luke, and John, they were very unforgettable and had special meaning for Peter. Each remembrance of these words was sweet. Words of grace are especially memorable to the person who receives the grace.

Brothers and sisters, when you are at the Lord’s table remembering Him, are you still afraid of God in your heart? Is there any sin separating you from God? You may have deeply wept, repented, and admitted that you disappointed the Lord, but do you dare say to Him, “Lord, I come to You”? Please consider this: If He was willing to go to the cross because He loved you, would He stop loving you just because you failed, fell, and backslid? Would the love He had on the cross decrease?

It may be very easy for you not to love Him, draw near to Him, or return to Him, but it is impossible for Him to forget you, forsake you, or not love you. During the three days after the Lord was crucified, Peter was silent because he had fallen. But the Lord did not forget him. Therefore, if you do not have the strength to come to the Lord, as long as you are willing to believe in His words, He will give you the strength to draw near to Him. If you fall, He can make you rise up again. Although it seems that you will not be able to draw near to Him anymore, remember in faith the words “and Peter,” and you will be able to draw near to Him.

When you want to come close to the Lord but feel that you are very far from Him and have no strength to come near to Him, you need to remember the words “and Peter.” The more Peter fell, the more the Lord wanted to remember him. Although Peter dared not come too close to the Lord, the Lord’s heart attracted him and kept him from running away from Him.

May you not misunderstand the Lord’s heart. If you ever hear the words “and Peter,” you should know that the Lord has not forsaken you. The Lord did not desert Peter, and neither has He forsaken you. “And Peter” means “and you”—you who have failed like Peter. May you see the Lord’s heart for you. If you see the Lord’s heart, you will run toward Him.

Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” (Hebrews 4:15-16)

Verse 16 says, We are told to come to the throne of grace just as we are. This throne is the throne of Jesus Christ. Although it is a throne of judgment and a throne of government, it is also a throne of grace. We may boldly approach it to receive mercy and find grace.

Being bold is not easy. People with limitations are not bold. Thieves are not bold. Offenders are not bold. How can we be bold when we see who we truly are? But Christians should boldly come to the Lord! The book of Hebrews tells us to be bold. Dare you bring all your troubles to the Lord? The problem is not that you dare not, but that you are too crafty. When you pray, your craftiness and slyness takes control. You are not bold! Instead of being honest, you like to make up a good speech to say in your prayer.

We rarely tell the Lord, “Lord, let me tell You how good I am.” If you cannot find anything good in you, what kind of person are you? Aren’t you a member of the body of Christ? As a member, you must have something good in you. I am afraid you don’t know how to come to the Lord just as you are. You always put on a mask. You come with religious words or with false humility. You always tell Him falsehood. You always pretend to be someone else.

Dear brothers, you must realize that He understands everything you are going through. He knows your pride. He knows your boasting. He knows your failure. He knows your weakness. He was in all points tempted as you are. The only difference is that He didn’t sin. Therefore, you must learn to come boldly to the throne of grace. You will receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need. The Lord will help you according to your need at the time. Generally speaking, if you fail to get help from the Lord, there are two possibilities: first, you still don’t know how to tell the Lord your heart; or second, the Lord does not feel you need the help at this time.

ጴጥሮስ ምን ዓይነት ሰው ነበር? ከትንሣኤ ሦስት ቀን በፊት፣ ጴጥሮስ ታላቅ ኃጢአት ሠርቷል፣ ይህም ኃጢአት ጌታን በአብ ፊት እንዳይመሰክርለት አድርጓል (ማቴ. 10፡33)። ጴጥሮስ ጌታን በሰው ፊት ብቻ ሳይሆን በጊዜው በሌሎች የተናቀች ሴት ገረድ ፊት የካደ። ጌታ ግን ሴቶቹ ለደቀመዛሙርቱ እና ለጴጥሮስ ስለ ትንሣኤው እንዲነግሩ ፈልጎ ነበር። “እና ጴጥሮስ” የሚሉት ቃላት ጥልቅ ትርጉም አላቸው! ማንኛውም ወንድም ወይም እህት የጴጥሮስ ልምድ ካላቸው፣ እነሱ ሊያስቡ ይችላሉ፡-

“ኦ! ወድቄአለሁ። የሰራሁት ኃጢአት የተለመደ ኃጢአት አይደለም። ከአሁን በኋላ ወደ ጌታ መቅረብ እንደማልችል እፈራለሁ። ምናልባት ጥሎኝ ሊሆን ይችላል። ከአሁን በኋላ፣ ጌታ የሚያከናውነው አስፈላጊ ነገር ሲኖረው፣ እርሱ እንዳይወስደኝ እፈራለሁ። በተለወጠው ተራራ ላይ ከእርሱ ጋር በነበርኩበት ጊዜ እንዳደረኩት አይነት ልዩ ልምዶችን ማግኘት አልችልም። በጌቴሴማኒ የአትክልት ስፍራ እንዳደረግኩት ከእርሱ ጋር ልሄድ አልችልም። ለጌታ እንደምሞት ነገርኩት ጌታም ዶሮ ሁለት ጊዜ ከመጮህ በፊት ሶስት ጊዜ እክደዋለሁ አለ። እሱ በተሳሳተ መንገድ የተረዳኝ መስሎኝ ነበር። ሲወሰድ በድፍረት እንደምወደው በማሰብ የሰውን ጆሮ በሰይፍ ቆርጬ ነበር። እኔ ግን ወደቅሁ። እኔ የወደቅኩት በሊቀ ካህናቱ ወይም በኃያሉ ጲላጦስ ፊት አልነበረም፣ ነገር ግን የሴት ባሪያ ከመጠየቅ በፊት ነው። ጌታን አንዴ፣ ሁለቴ ክጄ ነበር፣ እና በመጨረሻም ጌታን በመካድ ማልሁ።

“አንድ ጊዜ እርሱ ክርስቶስ የሕያው እግዚአብሔር ልጅ እንደ ሆነ ተናዘዝኩ። በሌላ ጊዜ፡- ጌታ ሆይ፥ ወደ ማን እንሄዳለን? አንተ የዘላለም ሕይወት ቃል አለህ።’ ግን በመጨረሻ፣ ልክ ጌታ ሊሰቀል ሲል ወደቅሁ። እርሱን በመካድ ታላቅ ኃጢአት ሠርቻለሁ። በፀፀት ብለቅስም ጌታ እንዴት እንደሚይዘኝ አላውቅም። እኔ እንደካድኩት ባያውቅ ይሻለው ነበር ነገርግን ስካድኩት ዞር ብሎ ተመለከተኝ። ያደረግኩትን ያውቅ ነበር።

"ምን ማድረግ ነው የሚገባኝ፧ ከእንግዲህ ወደ እሱ ለመቅረብ አልደፍርም። እሱ ቢወደኝም ከእርሱ የሚለየኝ ኃጢአት ስላለ ወደ እርሱ ለመቅረብ አልደፍርም። ምናልባት ከአሁን በኋላ ወደ እሱ መቅረብ አልችልም። ነገር ግን፣ ጌታ ከሞት ካስነሳ በኋላ፣ ብዙ ሴቶች ስለሱ በተለይ ሊነግሩኝ እንደሚችሉ ተመልሰው መጡ። ኦ፣ ጌታ አልተወኝም፣ ምንም እንኳን ሦስት ጊዜ ብክደውም። አይጠላኝም አይናደድም ምኞቴ ነው። ልቡ እኔን እያሰበ ነበር። ከእኔ በቀር ማንንም አልተናገረም። እሱ ስለ እኔ ብቻ እያሰበ ይመስላል። ‘ጴጥሮስ!’ ‘ጴጥሮስም!’ እነዚህ ቃላት በእውነት በዓለም ላይ ካሉት እጅግ በጣም ቆንጆ ሙዚቃዎች፣ እጅግ በጣም ጥሩ የምስራች ናቸው!

“ጌታ ለደቀ መዛሙርቱ እንዲነግሯቸው ሴቶቹን ብቻ ቢነግራቸው ኖሮ፣ እኔ የሱ ደቀ መዝሙር ለመሆን ብቁ እንዳልሆንኩ እና ከደቀ መዛሙርቱ አንዱ እንዳልሆንኩ አስቤ ነበር። እሱን ለማየት ልሄድ አልደፍርም። ነገር ግን ጌታ ‘እና ጴጥሮስ’ ስላለ፣ አሁንም እንደሚፈልግ አውቃለሁ። ምንም እንኳን ባይኖረኝም።

እሱን ለማየት የመሄድ ጥንካሬ፣ ‘እና ጴጥሮስ’ እንድሄድ አበረታታኝ። ሴቶቹ ይዘውት የመጡት መልእክት እውነት ነው። ጌታ መልአኩን በተለይ ስሜን እንዲጠቅስ ነግሮታል። ጌታ አልተወኝም። አሁንም ወደ እሱ መቅረብ እችላለሁ። ተነሥቼ ልሂድ እሱን ለማየት ፍቀድልኝ!"

ወደ እሱ መዞር

እነሆ የወደቀ፣ ኃጢአተኛ ጴጥሮስ፣ ጌታን የካደ ጴጥሮስ ነበር። ሆኖም ጌታ በተለይ እርሱን ጠቅሷል። ይህ ነው ወንጌል! ወንድሞች እና እህቶች፣ ጌታ አንዴ ካዳናችሁ ለዘላለም እንደሚያድናችሁ ታውቃላችሁ? ምንም እንኳን ተስፋ ቆርጠህ ሊሆን ቢችልም, ጌታ ፈጽሞ ተስፋ አይቆርጥም. እንዳንተ ያለ ኃጢያተኛ ሰው ወደ እርሱ በመመለሱ ሊያፍርበት ይችላል፣ነገር ግን የበደላችሁት ወደ እርሱ በመመለስ ምንም ስህተት እንደሌለው ይገነዘባል። እርሱ የማይጨነቅበት ሆኖ ሳለ ያንተን ውድቀት ለምን ታስባለህ? ጌታ ዛሬ ከፊትህ ላይ መጋረጃውን ቢያነሳት አትፈራውም ወደ እርሱ ለመቅረብ አትፈራም።

ጴጥሮስ ጌታን “ሁሉም በአንተ ቢሰናከሉ እኔ ከቶ አልሰናከልም” (ማቴ. 26፡33) እንዳለው አስታውሶ ሊሆን ይችላል። የጌታን ክብር ባየ ጊዜ በጌንሳሬጥ ሐይቅ የተናገረውን አስታውሶ ሊሆን ይችላል፡- “ጌታ ሆይ እኔ ኃጢአተኛ ነኝና ከእኔ ራቅ” (ሉቃስ 5፡8)። ጴጥሮስ እውነተኛ ሁኔታውን ካወቀ በኋላ፣ ጌታን እንደገና ለማየት እንዴት ይደፍራል? “ስለዚህ ከእኔ ጋር ለአንድ ሰዓት ያህል ልትተጉ አልቻላችሁምን?” የሚለውን የጌታን ልመና አስታውሶ ሊሆን ይችላል። የጌታን ትእዛዝ በጆሮው ሰምቶ ሊሆን ይችላል፡- “ወደ ፈተና እንዳትገቡ ትጉ እና ጸልዩ” (ማቴ. 26፡40–41)። የእሱ ሁኔታ ከጌታ መስፈርቶች በጣም ያነሰ ነበር። እርሱን ለማየት ለመሄድ እንዴት ይደፍራል? ግን ለማንኛውም ጌታን ለመገናኘት ሄደ። “እና ጴጥሮስ” በሚለው ቃል የተነሳ ለመሄድ ደፈረ። ወንድሞች እና እህቶች፣ “እና ጴጥሮስ” ከሚሉት ቃላት በስተጀርባ ያለውን የጌታን ሃሳብ ካወቃችሁ አሁንም ወደ እርሱ ከመመለስ ትመለሳላችሁ? “እና ጴጥሮስ” የሚሉትን ቃላት ጥልቅ ትርጉም ከተገነዘብክ ወደ ጌታ መቅረብ አለብህ።

"እና ፒተር" - የጸጋ ቃል

ከአራቱ ወንጌሎች መካከል፣ እነዚህን ቃላት የዘገበው የማርቆስ ወንጌል ብቻ ነው። ማርቆስ ጴጥሮስን የተከተለ እና የተማረ ወጣት ነበር። የማርቆስ ወንጌል የተጻፈው በጴጥሮስ ሲሆን የጻፈውም በማርቆስ ነው። “ለደቀ መዛሙርቱና ለጴጥሮስ ንገራቸው” የሚለው ቃል በተለይ በጴጥሮስ የተነገረ ነው። እነዚህ ቃላት ለሌሎች ሰዎች አስፈላጊ ላይሆኑ ይችላሉ፣ ነገር ግን በጴጥሮስ ልብ ውስጥ በጣም አስፈላጊ ነበሩ። መንፈስ ቅዱስ በነበረ ጊዜ

መጽሐፍ ቅዱስን ሲጽፍ፣ ምንም እንኳን እነዚህ ጥቂት ቃላት በማቴዎስ፣ በሉቃስና በዮሐንስ ዘንድ አስፈላጊ እንዳልሆኑ ቢቆጠሩም፣ በጣም የማይረሱ እና ለጴጥሮስ ልዩ ትርጉም እንደነበራቸው ሊያሳዩን ፈልጎ ነበር። የእነዚህ ቃላት እያንዳንዱ ትውስታ ጣፋጭ ነበር. የጸጋ ቃላት በተለይ ጸጋን ለተቀበለው ሰው የማይረሱ ናቸው።

ወንድሞች እና እህቶች፣ በጌታ ማዕድ ስትቀመጡ፣ እርሱን ስታስታውሱ፣ አሁንም በልባችሁ ውስጥ እግዚአብሔርን ትፈራላችሁ? አንተን ከእግዚአብሔር የሚለየህ ኃጢአት አለ? ምናልባት በጥልቅ አልቅሰህ፣ ተጸጽተህ እና ጌታን እንዳሳዘነህ አምነህ ሊሆን ይችላል፣ ነገር ግን “ጌታ ሆይ፣ ወደ አንተ እመጣለሁ” ልትለው ደፍረሃል? እባካችሁ ይህን አስቡበት፡ ስለወደዳችሁ ወደ መስቀል ሊሄድ ቢፈልግ ስለወደቃችሁ፣ ስለወደቃችሁ እና ስለወደዳችሁ ብቻ መውደድ ያቆማል? በመስቀል ላይ የነበረው ፍቅር ይቀንሳል?

እሱን ላለመውደድ፣ ወደ እሱ ላለመቅረብ ወይም ወደ እሱ ላለመመለስ ለእርስዎ በጣም ቀላል ሊሆን ይችላል፣ ነገር ግን እሱ አንተን ሊረሳህ፣ ሊጥልህ ወይም ሊወድህ አይችልም። ጌታ ከተሰቀለ በኋላ ባሉት ሶስት ቀናት ውስጥ ጴጥሮስ ስለ ወደቀ ዝም አለ። ጌታ ግን አልረሳውም። ስለዚህ፣ ወደ ጌታ ለመምጣት ብርታት ከሌልዎት፣ በቃሉ ለማመን ፍቃደኛ እስከሆኑ ድረስ፣ ወደ እሱ ለመቅረብ ጥንካሬን ይሰጥዎታል። ብትወድቅ እርሱ እንደገና እንድትነሳ ሊያደርግህ ይችላል። ምንም እንኳን ከአሁን በኋላ ወደ እርሱ መቅረብ የማትችል ቢመስልም "እና ጴጥሮስ" የሚሉትን ቃላት በእምነት አስታውስ እና ወደ እሱ መቅረብ ትችላለህ።
