This Privacy Policy explains how Christian Ebook Reader ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, shares, and protects your information when you use our mobile application (the "App"). We are committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring your experience with our App is safe and secure.
By using the App, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this Privacy Policy.
Information We Collect
We collect several different types of information for various purposes to provide and improve our service to you.
A. Information You Provide to Us
Google Account Information: If you choose to enable the Google Drive Backup & Restore feature, you will be prompted to authenticate via Google Sign-In. We will receive a secure token to authenticate your identity and gain the necessary permissions to read and write your app backup data strictly to a dedicated, hidden app-data folder on your Google Drive. We do not access or collect your personal files, emails, or unrelated Drive content.
B. Information Collected Automatically
When you use our App, we and our third-party service providers may automatically collect certain information, including:
Device Data: Information such as your device type, operating system version, unique device identifiers (e.g., Google Advertising ID, Android ID), IP address, and mobile network information.
Usage Data: Information about your interactions with the App, including timestamps, features accessed, and application settings.
Crash and Diagnostics Data: If the App crashes or experiences errors, we collect diagnostic data (such as stack traces and device state variables) to actively diagnose and fix bugs.
C. Device Permissions Used
To function properly, our App requests the following Android permissions:
Storage/Media Permissions (READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE, WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE, READ_MEDIA_*): Required to import EPUB and PDF files from your device storage into the reader, export notes/highlights, and save generated quote images.
Internet (INTERNET): Required to serve advertisements, download public-domain ebooks from predefined catalogues, process in-app purchases, send crash reports, and sync backups to Google Drive.
Notifications (POST_NOTIFICATIONS): Required to send you relevant updates, verses of the day, or important account alerts via Firebase Cloud Messaging. (Requires explicit user opt-in on Android 13+).
Vibrate (VIBRATE): Used to provide haptic feedback for user interactions (e.g., long-pressing, selecting highlights).
How We Use Your Information
We use the collected information for the following purposes:
To Provide Core Functionality: Enabling you to read, highlight, annotate, and bookmark books. (Note: reading data, notes, and highlights are stored locally within an on-device SQLite database and are never uploaded to our servers).
To Manage Backups: Facilitating manual or automated backups of your highlights, notes, and settings directly to your personal Google Drive.
To Improve the App: Analyzing crash reports and usage patterns to optimize performance and fix bugs.
To Process Purchases: Managing user entitlements and validating "Pro" subscription upgrades.
To Serve Advertisements: Displaying banner and interstitial ads to support the free version of the App.
To Communicate: Delivering push notifications related to app features (if permitted by you).
Third-Party Services We Use
We utilize industry-standard third-party services that may collect, process, or store data. Their use of information is governed by their respective privacy policies.
We integrate the following third-party services:
Google Mobile Ads (AdMob): AdMob may use advertising IDs to serve personalized or non-personalized ads. You can opt out of personalized advertising in your device settings. AdMob Privacy Policy: https://policies.google.com/technologies/ads
Google Play Services & Google Drive API: Used for authentication and encrypted cloud backups of your reading data. Google Privacy Policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy
Firebase (Crashlytics, Messaging, Remote Config): Used for monitoring app stability, delivering push notifications, and remotely managing app configurations. Firebase Privacy Policy: https://firebase.google.com/support/privacy
RevenueCat: Used as the backend architecture to validate and manage in-app purchases and pro subscriptions across app stores. RevenueCat collects anonymous app user IDs and purchase receipts. RevenueCat Privacy Policy: https://www.revenuecat.com/privacy
Google Drive Integration (Limited Use Policy)
Christian Ebook Reader's use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Specifically:
The App requests the scoped permission (https://www.googleapis.com/auth/drive.appdata) which only allows the App to read and write its own specific configuration and backup files within your Google Drive.
We do not read, transfer, sell, or access any personal files outside of this designated backup folder.
Data Retention, Deletion, and User Rights
Local Data: All books imported, annotations, highlights, and bookmarks reside solely on your device's local database. You may delete this data completely by uninstalling the application or selecting "Clear Data" in your Android system settings.
Cloud Backups: Your backups exist securely in your Google Drive. You can revoke the App's access to your Google account at any time by visiting your Google Account security settings page ("Third-party apps with account access"). You can also delete the backup file manually from within Google Drive's "Manage Apps" settings menu.
Push Notifications: You may opt out of push notifications at any time via your device's operating system settings.
Advertising: You can reset your device's advertising identifier or opt out of personalized ads entirely by visiting your Android device settings (Settings > Google > Ads > Reset advertising ID / Opt out of Ads Personalization).
Security of Your Information
We prioritize the security of your data. While no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure, we rely on established, secure SDKs (such as Google Sign-In and Firebase) which employ strict encryption protocols (HTTPS/SSL) during data transmission to protect your information.
Children's Privacy
Our App is not explicitly directed toward children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we discover that a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, we will immediately delete such data from our systems.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy within the App and updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this document. We advise you to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes.
