Professional Narrative
Hi, I'm Chris Rangel, a recent nursing graduate from UC Davis. I am from the small rural and underserved town Sanger, located in California's Central Valley. After high school I attended Saint Mary's College in the Bay area and soon afterwards landed a job at San Mateo County's safety net hospital as a registration staff member in the emergency department, and, soon after, worked as an associate management analyst in the revenue cycle.
Through these experiences, I arrived at the understanding that there are health inequities across race, language, and socio-economic status to name a few, but I felt I could not address these in a non-clinical administration position, rather, I felt that I could have an impact on individuals through the nursing profession.
This has led me to pursue nursing at UC Davis' Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing where I have learned the various avenues nursing has to close inequities. These avenues include: patient care, advocacy, education, public health, and policy to name a few.
Although I hope to one day have an impact on public health and policy, right now, my focus is on delivering patient centered care in a dignified way that honors and respects the patients and families that trust me. I am the right person for the job because I am dedicated to patient safety, dedicated to patient and family healing, and dedicated to contributing to the health and wellness of my community.
