Powell arrived in Charlotte after most recently finishing a graduate assistant position at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. While at SIUE Powell worked as a strength and conditioning coach for all of the NCAA Division I athletic teams, primarily working with the track and field team. Powell graduated from the SIUE graduate program in the Spring of 2016 with a Master’s of Science in Kinesiology.

Prior to SIUE, Powell was member of Ashland University’s track and field team in Ashland, Ohio. As an athlete, Powell was team captain, a four-time GLIAC All-Conference team member, and a four-time Division II national qualifier. He was also a 2014 GLIAC Conference Champion and all-American in the discus throw. Powell graduated from Ashland University in the Spring of 2014 with a Bachelor’s of Science in exercise science.
