It is with tremendous sadness that the family of Christopher John Deere shares that he passed away in Charlottetown, P.E.I., on January 24th 2024.
Born on September 5th 1958 to the late Audrey (Kemp) of Cardiff and Wyndham Deere of London, Chris leaves a legacy of love, laughter, and indelible memories. With his wonderful sense of humour, Chris brought joy to all who knew him. He had an incredible ability to connect with others, never shying away from a conversation or a chance to make a new friend..
Chris was the cherished partner of Tina Arsenault with whom he travelled the world. He was a loving father to Marina Deere (Owen Vipond) and Brendan Deere. In their formative years, he instilled a belief that every problem has a solution (EPHAS). As the middle child, he leaves behind decades of fond and colorful memories shared with his brothers David Deere (Lucy Curtis) and Michael Deere (Jannice Deere). He was a dear uncle, cousin, and a beloved friend to oh so many people.
Chris’ illustrious career in the Navy began with his studies at the Royal Military College of Canada (class of 1983), making life-long connections and demonstrating a passion for adventure and exploration. Throughout his 37 years in the Royal Canadian Navy, Chris became a clearance diver, served in the Gulf War, was Commander of the Fleet Diving Unit (Atlantic) and Director of Diving Safety, finishing his career as Liaison Officer in Paris. His work was honoured with the Order of Military Merit, an accolade that reflected his dedication and contributions to the military. His career allowed him to live in many different places, including Halifax, Quebec City, and Ottawa, but he held a special place in his heart for Paris.
Always on the move and armed with an arsenal of stories, Chris will be deeply missed by those who knew him. His heart was immense and he will be remembered as the truest of friends. Chris lived like a cork in a stream, going with the flow and embracing the twists and turns life brought his way. Everyone has a Chris Deere story and we look forward to hearing them all.
Cheers & Love Always.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Navy Benevolent Fund promoting the well-being of sailors, veterans, and families of the naval community, whom Chris held so dear to his heart. https://rcnbf.ca/
