Her Meal is a first person light-horror game made during the summer holidays as a personal project of mine.
The player must navigate the maze that is the lady's house for one purpose - to find enough ingredients to make and present a meal to the lady. Though perhaps there is a hidden dessert already pre-made.

Her Meal was first inspired by a way more ambitious labyrinth game of mine before I had even started studying at Howest. After thorough thinking and lessening of scope I ended up with a simple idea to make a game with the simplest possible mechanics and one simple goal. It was made mainly as practice and to test my knowledge.
For the feel of the game I wanted to combine scary and playful atmospheres. I managed to achieve that by making the main game and most of the elements in it 3D, textured in a semi-realistic way and making everything dark. Meanwhile the UI and some elements in the game itself I made 2D and hand drawn, giving them brighter colors as well.
During the making of this game I encountered quite a few challenges, but tackled them bit by bit, everything from how to code certain elements to how the UI should look, feel and work.
The hardest to figure out was how to make the picked up ingredients combine into the correct recipe as I wanted to make sure the players wouldn't need to keep trying to memorize which ingredients they needed for which recipe and then having to find that recipe, spending unnecasary time on it. Instead I managed to make it into a single button press that dissapears once a meal is complete.
Overall, I greatly enjoyed making this and hope to make many more projects in the future
