Chinatown is consist of a stretch on Bellaire Blvd from Fondren to Beltway 8. Zip code is mainly 77036. Businesses alongside of W Sam Houston South is 77072.

Since 1980's, Chinese and Taiwanese business owners migrated their businesses from East Downtown (EaDo) to this southwest neighborhood. Most of them landed at Metropole Center. There are still many stores existed since that era. From there, Few landed at Diho Square as it was built in 1983*. Dynasty Plaza released its spaces to offices and stores within its 2-story shopping mall in 1996. Further to the west, Sterling Plaza started to lease larger retail spaces in 2005. Around 2010, the giant Dun Huang Plaza was all filled up.

Chinatown is still growing, believe it or not. A developer knocked down the apartment buildings across from Metropole Center to make way for the next mall Bellaire Food Street in 2018.
